The Effect of Preselection on the Level of Bias and Accuracy in a Broiler Breeder Population, a Simulation Study

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Many breeding programmes have to perform preselection, as genotyping and phenotyping all potential breeder candidates is often not a feasible option. There is need to understand how preselection affects the quality of the genomic estimated breeding values (EBVs) at final selection and thereby can affect genetic progress.

Dark-ages Reionization and Galaxy Formation Simulation - X. The small contribution of quasars to reionization

open access: yes, 2017
Motivated by recent measurements of the number density of faint AGN at high redshift, we investigate the contribution of quasars to reionization by tracking the growth of central supermassive black holes in an update of the Meraxes semi-analytic model ...

Performance and detection range of acoustic receivers in mangrove habitats

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Acoustic telemetry has been used to monitor the movement of aquatic animals in a broad range of aquatic environments. Despite their importance, mangrove habitats are understudied for the spatial ecology of elasmobranchs, with acoustic telemetry rarely used inside mangrove habitats.

The global structure of galactic discs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
A statistical study of global galaxy parameters can help to improve our understanding of galaxy formation processes. In this paper we present the analysis of global galaxy parameters based on optical and near-infrared observations of a large sample of ...

FDI, banking crisis and growth: direct and spill over effects [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
This study suggests a new decomposition of the effect of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on long-term growth in developing countries. It reveals that FDI not only have a positive direct effect on growth, but also increase the latter by reducing the recessionary effect resulting from a banking crisis. Even more, they reduce its occurrence. JEL: F65, F36,

Change Your Diet: How CO2, Plant Phenology and Genotype Alter Grapevine Quality and Affect Performance and Larval Transcriptome of an Insect Herbivore

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Herbivorous insects need to cope with changing host plant biochemistry caused by abiotic and biotic impacts, to meet their dietary requirements. Larvae of the multivoltine European grapevine moth Lobesia botrana, one of the main insect pests in viticulture, feed on both flowers and berries.
