Sociological Forum, EarlyView.ABSTRACT The article suggests that authors should be encouraged to include sections entitled ‘Theory ex ante’ and ‘Theorizing ex post’ (or equivalents) in sociological journal articles. It is argued that such a structural separation between previous theory and the author's own theorizing could help facilitate collective theoretical progress.
