Kudoa alliaria in flesh of Argentinian hoki Macruronus magellanicus (Gadiformes; Merlucciidae) [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2006
Myxozoans of the genus Kudoa are widespread parasites of marine fishes and primarily infect the body musculature of their hosts. Although Kudoa species are not usually associated with host mortality, some do form macroscopic cysts in the tissue and some are associated with post mortem tissue degradation.

Redescription of Bregmaceros mcclellandi Thompson, 1840 (Gadiformes: Bregmacerotidae)

Ichthyological Research, 2003
This study redescribes Bregmaceros mcclellandi Thompson, 1840, based on one specimen (74.4 mm SL) from the Bay of Bengal and 66 specimens (30.0–84.7 mm SL) from Mumbai (Bombay), India, because the type specimens have apparently been lost. The present specimens are characterized by having black dorsal, pectoral, and caudal fins and show the following ...

The complete mitochondrial genome of Lota lota (Gadiformes: Gadidae)

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequence of Lota lota has been determined by long polymerase chain reaction and primer walking methods. The mitogenome is a circular molecule of 16,547 bp in length and contains 37 mitochondrial genes including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) and a ...

Swimbladder Structure in Morid Cods (Pisces: Gadiformes)

Copeia, 1988
Outgroup comparisons, and dissections of 19 species representing 16 morid genera, indicate that a complete horizontal membranous diaphragm within the posterior chamber of the swimbladder is a synapomorphy of the Moridae. The swimbladder of Pseudophycis differs from that of all other investigated morid genera in possessing lateral diverticula.

A new grenadier (Gadiformes, Macrouridae) from the Mediterranean

2002
Caelorinchus mediterraneus is described from specimens collected in the western and central Mediterranean Sea (Catalan Sea, Ligurian Sea, Adriatic Sea) at depths between 800 and 1200 m. Previous workers had misidentified the species as C. occa, C. labiatus, or C. vaillanti (a synonym of C. labiatus).

Sequence Characterization of a Unique Intergenic Spacer in Gadiformes Mitochondrial DNA

Marine Biotechnology, 1999
: The nucleotide sequences of intergenic spacers located between the tRNA(Thr) and tRNA(Pro) genes in mitochondrial DNA of cod fishes (order Godiformes) were determined. Spacers from eight species representing two families of cod fishes were analyzed and found to vary in size from 25 to 99 bp.

Melanic hyper-pigmentation in the genus Lepidion (Gadiformes: Moridae)

2014
Two cases of melanic hyper-pigmentation in Lepidion lepidion are reported from two localities in Spanish Atlantic waters. A bibliographic search revealed the occurrence of this chromatic anomaly in two other Lepidion specimens, the first of them reported in the late 19th century. Macroscopically, the colour abnormality was characterized by the presence
