Redescription of Bregmaceros mcclellandi Thompson, 1840 (Gadiformes: Bregmacerotidae)

Ichthyological Research, 2003
This study redescribes Bregmaceros mcclellandi Thompson, 1840, based on one specimen (74.4 mm SL) from the Bay of Bengal and 66 specimens (30.0–84.7 mm SL) from Mumbai (Bombay), India, because the type specimens have apparently been lost. The present specimens are characterized by having black dorsal, pectoral, and caudal fins and show the following ...

Sequence Characterization of a Unique Intergenic Spacer in Gadiformes Mitochondrial DNA

Marine Biotechnology, 1999
: The nucleotide sequences of intergenic spacers located between the tRNA(Thr) and tRNA(Pro) genes in mitochondrial DNA of cod fishes (order Godiformes) were determined. Spacers from eight species representing two families of cod fishes were analyzed and found to vary in size from 25 to 99 bp.

A new grenadier (Gadiformes, Macrouridae) from the Mediterranean

2002
Caelorinchus mediterraneus is described from specimens collected in the western and central Mediterranean Sea (Catalan Sea, Ligurian Sea, Adriatic Sea) at depths between 800 and 1200 m. Previous workers had misidentified the species as C. occa, C. labiatus, or C. vaillanti (a synonym of C. labiatus).

Swimbladder Structure in Morid Cods (Pisces: Gadiformes)

Copeia, 1988
Outgroup comparisons, and dissections of 19 species representing 16 morid genera, indicate that a complete horizontal membranous diaphragm within the posterior chamber of the swimbladder is a synapomorphy of the Moridae. The swimbladder of Pseudophycis differs from that of all other investigated morid genera in possessing lateral diverticula.

New data on the reproduction of Macrourids (Teleostei, Gadiformes)

Sarsia, 1979
Abstract The reproduction of deep-sea fishes is still poorly known, when it is not a total mystery. This is true in the case of those belonging to one of the most important bathybenthic families, the Macrouridae. During several research expeditions conducted by the Institut scientifique et technique des peches maritimes aboard the oceanographic vessels

Molecular Phylogenetics of Gadidae and Related Gadiformes Based on Mitochondrial DNA Sequences

Marine Biotechnology, 2005
Mitochondrial DNA sequences of selected regions of the small subunit and large subunit ribosomal RNAs and cytochrome b genes were analyzed for 10 gadid species, representing 8 genera within Gadidae, and 10 species representing 5 other gadiform families.

On the occurrence of Physiculus longifilis (Gadiformes: Moridae) in the Gulf of Tokin

Journal of Ichthyology, 2006
The genus Physiculus Kaup, 1858, comprises about 40 species (Paulin 1989, 1991; Trunov, 1991; Shcherbachev, 1993; Anderson and Tweddle, 2002). Some of them are common, others are known only from single specimens. The little known P. longifilis Weber, 1913, described from the Flores Sea (Indonesia) belongs to the latter category (Weber, 1913).

New data on the osteology of some species of Bregmaceros (Teleostei, Gadiformes)

Journal of Morphology, 1991
AbstractOsteology of four extant species of Bregmacerotidae, Bregmaceros houdei, B. bathymaster, B. japonicus, and B. macclellandi, is described for the first time. The osteological analysis enables the recognition of two groups: (1) B. houdei and B. bathymaster, and (2) B. japonicus and B. macclellandi.
