Finding 16S rRNA gene-based SNPs for the genetic traceability of commercial species belonging to Gadiformes

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2010
A SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) based analysis was developed to differentiate four economically important species belonging to the Gadiformes order: Pacific cod Gadus macrocephalus, Atlantic cod Gadus morhua, Haddock Melanogrammus aeglefinus and ...

In vitro antioxidant and anti-aging properties of swim bladder peptides from Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Properties, 2020
Two bioactive peptide fractions (SWP-I and SWP-II) of swim bladder peptides from Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) were obtained through enzymatic hydrolysis and isolated by gel filtration chromatography.

Fermentation and Effect on the Microbial Loads of Atlantic Cod, Gadus morhua

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2020
The study was carried out to evaluate the effect of fermentation on the microbial loads of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua). Eviscerated samples of Atlantic cod were fermented in three media: sterile distilled water, 14% saline medium and 14% salt with ...

Nodavirus in farmed Atlantic cod Gadus morhua in Norway [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2007
Viral encephalopathy and retinopathy (VER) was diagnosed in 5 to 24 g sized farmed Atlantic cod Gadus morhua kept in sea cages at Parisvatn, Hordaland county, on the west coast of Norway. Moderate mortality (10 to 15%) was observed, along with anorexia and abnormal swimming behaviour, such as looping or spiral swimming and reduced coordination ...

First record of brown colouration of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua, L.) from the North Sea

open access: yesOceanologia, 2014
This paper reports the biological characterisation of a specimen of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua L.) with a unique brown colour, which is the first fish of this species with such a colouration recorded from European waters.

Parasites of young Baltic cod, Gadus morhua callarias L. in the Gulf of Puck, Poland [PDF]

open access: yesActa Ichthyologica et Piscatoria, 2004
Background. The hitherto published records of the parasite fauna of Baltic cod, Gadus morhua callarias cover commercially-caught adult fish. The aim of this study was to determine the composition of the parasite fauna of young Baltic cod, the relevant ...

Atlantic Cod (Gadus morhua) benefits from the availability of seagrass (Zostera marina) nursery habitat

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2014
The Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) is a species of significant economic and historic importance but infamous for its decline. Apart from overfishing, the causes of this decline and its subsequent lack of recovery remain largely unresolved.

Atlantic cod Gadus morhua in the Mediterranean: a surprising immigrant [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Ecology Progress Series, 2012
A female cod Gadus morhua L. 87.1 cm total length was captured off Mallorca (Balearic Islands, NW Mediterranean) in June 2009 by a bottom trawler between 63 and 110 m depth. This is the first documented occurrence of the species in the Mediterranean. The fish was mature, with a very low hepatosomatic index and atretric gonads.

Distribution of anisakid nematodes in the muscle tissue of cod (Gadus morhua) from the Norwegian Sea

open access: yesOceanologia, 2022
Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) is an important commercial fish species on the world market. The aim of our studies was to explore the presence, intensity of infection and distribution of the zoonotic nematodes of the different genera of Anisakidae in the ...
