Mucosal Immunization with Newcastle Disease Virus Vector Coexpressing HIV-1 Env and Gag Proteins Elicits Potent Serum, Mucosal, and Cellular Immune Responses That Protect against Vaccinia Virus Env and Gag Challenges

open access: yesmBio, 2015
Newcastle disease virus (NDV) avirulent strain LaSota was used to coexpress gp160 Env and p55 Gag from a single vector to enhance both Env-specific and Gag-specific immune responses.

Maternal LAMP/p55gagHIV-1 DNA immunization induces in utero priming and a long-lasting immune response in vaccinated neonates. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Infants born to HIV-infected mothers are at high risk of becoming infected during gestation or the breastfeeding period. A search is thus warranted for vaccine formulations that will prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission.

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Matrix Tropism Influences Endometriotic Cell Attachment Patterns

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of substrate stiffness and multicellular coculture on endometriotic cell attachment to extracellular matrix‐laden microarrayed islands is reported. This model investigates early endometriotic cell attachment, aiming to capture “lesion initiation events”.

Embedded 3D‐Coaxial Bioprinting of Stenotic Brain Vessels with a Mechanically Enhanced Extracellular Matrix Bioink for Investigating Hemodynamic Force‐Induced Endothelial Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, a physically enhanced vascular dECM bioink and used 3D‐coaxial bioprinting are developed to fabricate mature brain blood vessels for cerebral atherosclerosis research. This model demonstrates that vascular geometry‐induced hemodynamic changes trigger vascular inflammation, ensuring its potential for cerebrovascular research.

Visual histological grading system for the evaluation of in vitro-generated neocartilage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Here we present the development of a visual evaluation system for routine assessment of in vitro-engineered cartilaginous tissue. Neocartilage was produced by culturing human articular chondrocytes in pellet culture systems or in a scaffold-free ...

Synergistic Osteogenesis After Co‐Administration of cmRNAs Encoding BMP‐2 and BMP‐7 Utilizing a Transcript‐Activated Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that the dual delivery of BMP‐2/‐7 coding cmRNAs for bone healing is demonstrated as feasible, safe, and highly osteogenic. Compared to single BMP‐2 or BMP‐7 cmRNAs, the combination enhances the production of both mineral and organic components of the extracellular matrix when delivered using a collagen‐HA scaffold, supporting ...

Distinct Pathway of Human T-Cell Leukemia Virus Type 1 Gag Punctum Biogenesis Provides New Insights into Enveloped Virus Assembly

open access: yesmBio, 2018
The assembly of virus particles is a crucial aspect of virus spread. For retroviruses, the Gag polyprotein is the key driver for virus particle assembly.
