Galactan in Western Latch Wood

Journal of Forestry, 1951
Abstract A quantitative determination was made by the U. S. Forest Products Laboratory of the galactan in western larch woods and sawmill refuse to obtain data useful to those contemplating commercial ventures designed to produce and market various materials made of galactan.

Homogeneous, anti-galactan immunoglobulins the question of specificity

Immunochemistry, 1976
Abstract Several murine, anti-galactan immunoglobulins have been investigated for their specificity. They interact with polysaccharide antigens whose structure either has been shown to include β- D -(1,6)-linked galactopyranosyl residues, or whose proposed structure is not incompatible with the possible presence of thay linkage type.

Mechanism of galactan gelation

Food Hydrocolloids, 1992
Abstract Results of the investigations on galactan gelation carried out in the Institute of Organoelement Compounds are reviewed. It is shown that a helical conformation of kappa-carrageenan and agarose is not a prerequisite for gelation of solutions of these galactans. Gelation of agarose is completely governed by hydrogen bonding.

Calorimetric study of galactans

Food Hydrocolloids, 1987
Abstract The hehx-coil transitions of iota-carrageenan and agarose have been studied using microcalorimetry and polarimetry. On the basis of Manning's polyelectrolyte theory it is possible to propose a helical, dimer-coil transition for iota-carrageenan using the experimental results. For agarose, the enthalpy recorded during the transition is due to

Vibrational spectroscopy of seaweed galactans

Hydrobiologia, 1996
Information from classical infrared spectroscopy studies has been of significance for characterizing seaweed galactans. The development of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and of Fourier transform laser Raman spectroscopy has produced great advances in the application of vibrational spectroscopy to the structural study of polysaccharides ...

The ε-Galactan of Larch Wood

Nature, 1941
THE occurrence of this material, which is of considerable interest in connexion with the chemistry of wood formation, has been recognized for some time and it has been shown to contain d-galactose and l-arabinose residues1. In a recent article2 descriptions are given of esters of this galactan and of its methyl ether, and the authors tentatively ...

Purification and characterization of the raffinose oligosaccharide chain elongation enzyme, galactan : galactan galactosyltransferase (GGT), from Ajuga reptans leaves

Physiologia Plantarum, 2002
Galactan: galactan galactosyltransferase (GGT), an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of the long‐chain raffinose family of oligosaccharides (RFOs) in Ajuga reptans, catalyses the transfer of an α‐galactosyl residue from one molecule of RFO to another one resulting in the next higher RFO oligomer.

kappa-Chain restriction in anti-galactan antibodies.

The Journal of Immunology, 1982
Abstract Complete kappa-chain variable region sequences were determined for 10 light chains from anti-beta-(1,6)-D-galactan-binding monoclonal antibodies. Eight of these light chains were from IgM and two from IgG proteins. Seven of the eight IgM light chains were identical from position 1 to 95, the region encoded by the light chain ...
