Makapuno Coconut: A Potential New Commercial Source of Galactomannan

open access: yesCORD, 2010
Novel uses of Makapuno mutant coconut were explored. The focus was on the endosperm, which is rich in galactomannan as compared with that of the normal coconut.

Prognostic Value of Serum and Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid Galactomannan Levels in Invasive Aspergillosis: An 8-Year Experience at a Tertiary Cancer Center

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
Background: Invasive aspergillosis (IA) is a life-threatening fungal infection that primarily affects immunocompromised individuals and has high morbidity and mortality rates, necessitating timely diagnosis and treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the

Upgrading the Nutritional Value of PKC Using a Bacillus subtilis Derived Monocomponent β-Mannanase

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Palm kernel cake (PKC) is an abundant side stream that can only be added to non-ruminant feed in small concentrations due to its content of antinutritional factors, mainly galactomannan, which cannot be digested by non-ruminants.

Pharmaceutical use of galactomannans [PDF]

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2011
The pharmaceutical use of galactomannans from different sources, commercial and noncommercial, has been extensively studied over the past decade. Galactomannans show potential in the global trend towards the use of more plant-based products for ecological motives, and their production and application do not cause pollution or disturb the ecosystem ...

Optimization and evaluation of textural properties of ultra-filtrated low-fat cheese containing galactomannan and Novagel gum

open access: yesMljekarstvo, 2019
The general aim of this research was to optimise textural properties and to evaluate the possibility of producing ultra-filtrated low-fat cheese (7-9 % (w/w)), containing various concentrations of galactomannan and Novagel (0.1-0.5 % w/w), and assessing ...

Investigating plant galactomannans [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemistry and Molecular Biology Education, 2002
AbstractThis paper presents a review of biological importance and occurrence of galactomannan in plants. Its chemical composition and structure are reviewed, and a short laboratory practical exercise on the isolation and determination of D‐mannose/D‐galactose ratio of plant galactomannan is presented.

Galactomannan use in clinical practice: providing free testing is not the full answer

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2018
Introduction: Invasive aspergillosis is a condition associated with a high mortality rate mostly due to difficulties in performing an early diagnosis. In recent years, galactomannan detection has markedly improved the diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis,

Influence of galactomannan on the structure and thermal behaviour of xanthan/galactomannan mixtures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Food Engineering, 1995
Mixed gels of xanthan gum and galactomannans (guar, whole and fractionated locust bean gum - LBG) were compared by means of oscillatory shear measurements. Whatever the LBG fraction, a synergistic maximum was observed when the ratio of xanthan to galactomannan was 1:1. However, the magnitude of this maximum varied with the LBG fraction used.

Influence of Polymeric Blends on Bioceramics of Hydroxyapatite

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
Bioceramics are used to repair, rebuild, and replace parts of the human body, e.g., bones, joints and teeth, in the form of powder, coatings or prostheses.

Crystal Facet‐Polysaccharide Matching in CFS‐P Nanocrystals Drives Fungal Uptake, Vacuole Destruction, and Selective Antifungal Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Facet‐engineered PVP‐capped CuFeSe2 nanocrystals exhibit potent, selective antifungal activity by strongly binding cell‐wall mannan, enabling vacuolar entry and organelle disruption. High‐index facets show superior mannan affinity, validated by theoretical calculations and experiments. CFS‐P induces vacuolar cavitation, mitochondrial abnormalities, and
