Magnetic fields in barred galaxies [PDF]
We study the generation and maintenance of large-scale magnetic fields in barred galaxies. We take a velocity field (with strong noncircular components) from a published gas dynamical simulation of Athanassoula (1992), and use this as input to a galactic dynamo calculation.

The Galaxy Magnetic Field [PDF]
The origin and dynamics of magnetic fields depend crucially on the dynamics of a gas in the Galaxy. In turn the magnetic field is needed to isotropize the cosmic rays (the influence on chemistry) and is of importance for the formation of stars (local dynamics). Thus the appearance of this topic at the Colloquium is justified.

Magnetic Fields in Young Galaxies [PDF]
AbstractWe have studied the fate of initial magnetic fields in the hot halo gas out of which the visible parts of galaxies form, using three-dimensional numerical MHD-experiments. The halo gas undergoes compression by several orders of magnitude in the subsonic cooling flow that forms the cold disk.

Magnetic Fields in Galaxy Clusters [PDF]
AbstractMagnetic fields in galaxy clusters can be investigated using a variety of techniques. Recent studies including radio halos, Inverse Compton hard X-ray emissions and Faraday rotation measure, are briefly outlined. A numerical approach for investigating cluster magnetic fields strength and structure is presented.

Magnetic Fields in Primordial Galaxies
Magnetic fields play a vital role in numerous astrophysical processes such as star formation and the interstellar medium. In particular, their role in the formation and evolution of galaxies is not well understood. This paper presents high-resolution magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations performed with GIZMO to investigate the effect of magnetic fields

Magnetic fields in nearby galaxies [PDF]
We describe a recent full-polarization radio continuum survey, performed using the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT), of several nearby galaxies in the Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey (SINGS) sample. The WSRT-SINGS survey has been utilized to study the polarized emission and Faraday rotation measures (RMs) in the targets, and reveals ...

Magnetic Fields in Irregular Galaxies [PDF]
AbstractRadio data of large irregular galaxies reveal some extended synchrotron emission with a substantial degree of polarization. In the case of NGC 4449 strong galaxy-scale regular magnetic fields were found, in spite of the lack of ordered rotation required for the conventional dynamo action.
