Extreme kinematic misalignment in IllustrisTNG galaxies: the origin, structure, and internal dynamics of galaxies with a large-scale counterrotation [PDF]

open access: greenMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2020
ABSTRACT We provide an in-deep analysis of 25 galaxies with substantial counterrotation from IllustrisTNG100 simulations in the stellar mass range 2×109−3×1010 M⊙. The counterrotation is a result of an external gas infall ≈2–8 Gyr ago.

Deep Kinematics and Dynamics of Edge-on S0 Galaxies. I. NGC 3115 [PDF]

open access: green, 1993
As a first step of a program aimed to the detection of dark matter (or radial variations of M/L) in early-type galaxies, we report deep spectroscopic observations of the bulge-dominated edge-on S0 galaxy NGC 3115, made at ESO, La Silla, using EFOSC at the 3.6m telescope and EMMI at NTT.

The dynamics of the dE galaxy FS76 : bridging the kinematic dichotomy between Es and dEs [PDF]

open access: green, 2001
We present major and minor axis kinematics out to 2 half-light radii for the bright (M_B=-16.7) dwarf elliptical FS76, a member of the NGC5044 group. Its velocity dispersion is 46 \pm 2 km/s in the center and rises to 70 \pm 10 km/s at half-light radius. Beyond 1R_e the dispersion starts to fall again.

Structure and dynamics of galaxies with a low surface-brightness disc - I. The stellar and ionized-gas kinematics [PDF]

open access: bronzeMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2008
(abridged) Photometry and long-slit spectroscopy are presented for a sample of 6 galaxies with a low surface brightness stellar disc and a bulge. The stellar and ionised-gas kinematics were measured along the major and minor axis in half of the sample galaxies, whereas the other half was observed only along two diagonal axes. Spectra along two diagonal

Evaluating galaxy dynamical masses from kinematics and jeans equilibrium in simulations [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2021
ABSTRACT We provide prescriptions to evaluate the dynamical mass (Mdyn) of galaxies from kinematic measurements of stars or gas using analytic considerations and the VELA suite of cosmological zoom-in simulations at z = 1–5. We find that Jeans or hydrostatic equilibrium is approximately valid for galaxies of stellar masses above M⋆ ∼ 109.
