First Gaia dynamical model of the Milky Way disc with six phase space coordinates: a test for galaxy dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2019
We construct the first comprehensive dynamical model for the high-quality subset of stellar kinematics of the Milky Way disc, with full 6D phase-space coordinates, provided by the Gaia Data Release 2.

Discovery and Initial Investigation of a New Low Surface Brightness Planetary Nebula Candidate at High Galactic Latitude

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Planetary nebulae represent a late evolutionary phase of low‐ to intermediate‐mass stars. In this article, we present the serendipitous discovery of a previously unknown, faint potential Galactic planetary nebula (PN) in the constellation Camelopardalis, identified during a survey‐inspection, aiming at the detection of dwarf companions of the ...

Ionized Gas Kinematics with FRESCO: An Extended, Massive, Rapidly Rotating Galaxy at z = 5.4

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal Letters
With the remarkable sensitivity and resolution of JWST in the infrared, measuring rest-optical kinematics of galaxies at z > 5 has become possible for the first time.

A spiral galaxy's mass distribution uncovered through lensing and dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We investigate the matter distribution of a spiral galaxy with a counter-rotating stellar core, SDSS J1331+3628 (J1331), independently with gravitational lensing and stellar dynamical modelling.

50% body weight loading reduces stature increases and lumbar disc expansion from 4 h hyper‐buoyancy floatation versus 15 min sitting upright

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Microgravity is associated with stature increases, back pain and post‐flight intervertebral disc (IVD) herniation. This study aims to determine whether 30 s seated 50% body weight (BW) axial loading is comparable to 15 min sitting upright in 1 g upon changes in stature, anterior lumbar IVD height (via ultrasound), passive vertebral stiffness ...

LINKING THE SPIN EVOLUTION OF MASSIVE BLACK HOLES TO GALAXY KINEMATICS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present the results of a semianalytical model that evolves the masses and spins of massive black holes together with the properties of their host galaxies across the cosmic history.

Non‐Negligible Influence of Forcing Mechanisms on Turbulent Mixing at Low Reynolds Numbers: A One‐Dimensional Turbulence Study

open access: yesPAMM, Volume 26, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT This study presents a numerical investigation of passive scalar mixing in homogeneous isotropic turbulence (HIT). Different volumetric forcing schemes have been used in the literature, but the side effects are rarely discussed, either because these are assumed irrelevant or because it is too costly to conduct such an analysis with a high ...

ALFALFA DISCOVERY OF THE NEARBY GAS-RICH DWARF GALAXY LEO P. V. NEUTRAL GAS DYNAMICS AND KINEMATICS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present new H i spectral line imaging of the extremely metal-poor, star-forming dwarf irregular galaxy Leo P. Our H i images probe the global neutral gas properties and the local conditions of the interstellar medium (ISM).

Distribution and Dynamics of Molecular Gas in the Galaxy M51. III. Kinematics of Molecular Gas [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of Japan, 1997
We present here a study of the dynamics of the molecular gas in the spiral galaxy M51 using CO data obtained with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope. From the distribution of the radial velocity of the CO gas, the velocity components parallel and perpendicular to the spiral arms were determined for each spiral phase.

The kinematics and dynamics of the rich cluster of galaxies Abell 539

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1988
A sample of 289 redshifts within 10 deg of the center of the cluster A539 have been obtained in order to investigate the cluster kinematics and dynamics. Within 1 Mpc of the center, the physical parameters of A539 are found to be typical of those of rich clusters.
