Galaxy spectral synthesis. II - M32 and the ages of galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1980
The paper presents a population synthesis performed on absolute spectrophotometry for the central 31 in. of M32. The metallicity of M32 is solar with 0.1 dex, implying that major star formation continued in M32 until 5 Gyr ago, or 10 Gyr after the oldest globular clusters formed.

Story2Board: A Training‐Free Approach for Expressive Visual Storytelling

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We present Story2Board, a training‐free framework for expressive storyboard generation from natural language. Existing methods narrowly focus on subject identity, overlooking key aspects of visual storytelling such as spatial composition, background evolution, and narrative pacing.

A Robust Age Indicator for Old Stellar Populations

open access: yes, 1999
We derive new spectral H_gamma index definitions which are robust age indicators for old and relatively old stellar populations and thus have great potential for solving the age-metallicity degeneracy of galaxy spectra.

Inhibition of Ornithine Decarboxylase 1 Mitigates Denervation‐Induced Muscle Atrophy by Suppressing Proteolysis and Preserving Muscle Stem Cell Homeostasis

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Polyamine metabolism is innervation responsive and involved in denervation‐induced muscle atrophy. Inhibition of polyamine metabolism attenuates muscle atrophy by restraining proteolysis and preserving MuSCs homeostasis. Denervation‐induced activation of FAP‐derived FGF7 drives premature MuSCs activation, while DFMO suppresses this paracrine cue to ...

Anatomy of the Star Formation in a Tidally Disturbed Disk Galaxy: NGC 3718

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a UV, optical, and near-IR study of the star-forming complexes in the nearby peculiar galaxy NGC 3718, using Ultraviolet Imaging telescope, Galaxy Evolution Explorer, Spitzer, and DECam Legacy Survey imaging data.

An Intermediate-Age α-Rich Galactic Population Beyond the Solar Neighborhood [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Understanding the chemical history of the Galaxy is essential for developing theories and models for our Galaxy's formation history. I expanded on the results of previous work studying the relationship between chemical composition and age in the Kepler ...

Noble gases and nitrogen in material from asteroid Bennu

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract We report the elemental and isotopic abundances of all stable noble gases (helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon) in eight particles from asteroid Bennu returned by NASA's OSIRIS‐REx mission. We also report nitrogen abundances and isotopic ratios that were analyzed alongside neon and argon in four additional Bennu particles.

Testable Predictions of Outside-in Age Gradients in Dwarf Galaxies of All Types

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We use a sample of 73 simulated satellite and central dwarf galaxies spanning a stellar mass range of 10 ^5.3 –10 ^9.1 M _⊙ to investigate the origin of their stellar age gradients.

Globular Clusters in NGC 4365: New K-band Imaging and a Reassessment of the Case for Intermediate-age Clusters

open access: yes, 2005
We study the globular cluster (GC) system of the Virgo giant elliptical galaxy NGC 4365, using new wide-field VIK imaging. The GC colour distribution has (at least) two peaks, but the colours of the red GCs appear more strongly weighted towards ...
