A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Nested bars with different pattern speeds: NGC 2950

open access: yes, 2005
We studied the SB0 galaxy NGC 2950, which hosts two nested stellar bars. We used the Tremaine-Weinberg method to measure the pattern speed of the primary bar.

Bars within Bars in Galaxies

open access: yes, 1998
Inner regions of barred disk galaxies often include asymmetrical, small-scale central features, some of which are best described as secondary bars. Because orbital timescales in the galaxy center are short, secondary bars are likely to be dynamically decoupled from the main kiloparsec-scale bars.

Comprehensive In Vitro Profiling Demonstrates Successful Immune Evasion of Bioengineered Immune‐Shielded Heart Valves

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Living donor heart valves offer superior durability for pediatric patients but trigger immune rejection. Lentiviral delivery of viral immune‐evasion genes US2 and Serpin b9 into donor valve cells and valve tissue suppresses HLA expression, reduces PBMC clustering and cytotoxic killing, and induces transcriptional immune‐tolerance programs, paving the ...

Implementation of viscoelastic Hopkinson bars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Includes bibliographical references (p. 107-112).The properties of soft, viscoelastic materials at high strain rates are important in furthering our understanding of their role during blast or impact events.

Bar Formation during a Gaia-Sausage-Enceladus-like Merger Event

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Bars are among the most prominent galactic structures, yet their formation mechanisms remain incompletely understood. They can form either internally, via dynamical instabilities, or externally, triggered by interactions with other galaxies.

Orbital Support and Evolution of Flat Profiles of Bars (Shoulders)

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Many barred galaxies exhibit upturns (shoulders) in their bar-major-axis density profile. Simulation studies have suggested that shoulders are supported by looped x _1 orbits, occur in growing bars, and can appear after bar buckling.

Constraining dark energy using real and mock galaxy surveys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this thesis, we study how dark energy may be constrained by measurements of large-scale clustering in future galaxy surveys, and through the imprint of a time-varying large-scale potential on the CMB (the integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect).

Surrogate‐Optimized Flow‐Guided Miniature Condenser for Rapid Exhaled Glucose Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A surrogate‐optimized miniature condenser guides humid exhaled flow toward cold surfaces to accelerate exhaled breath condensate collection. By improving vapor access within a compact footprint, the design increases sample yield. This enables post‐collection enrichment and rapid colorimetric glucose detection from dilute exhaled biomarkers within a 5 ...

The Strength of Bisymmetric Modes in SDSS-IV/MaNGA Barred Galaxy Kinematics

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey-IV/Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) Survey data provide an unprecedented opportunity to study the internal motions of galaxies and, in particular, represent the largest sample of barred galaxy ...
