Dynamics of dwarf-spheroidals and the dark matter halo of the galaxy [PDF]

open access: yesNew Astronomy, 2007
Based on the observed paucity of the dwarf spheroidal (dSph) satellites of the Milky Way at small Galactocentric distances, we put forward the hypothesis that subsequent to the formation of the Milky Way and its satellites, those dSphs that had orbits with small perigalacticons were tidally disrupted, leaving behind a population that now has a ...

Noble gases and nitrogen in material from asteroid Bennu

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract We report the elemental and isotopic abundances of all stable noble gases (helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon) in eight particles from asteroid Bennu returned by NASA's OSIRIS‐REx mission. We also report nitrogen abundances and isotopic ratios that were analyzed alongside neon and argon in four additional Bennu particles.

The Outskirt Stellar Mass of Low-redshift Massive Galaxies Is an Excellent Halo Mass Proxy in Illustris/IllustrisTNG Simulations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Recent observations suggest that the extended stellar halos of low-redshift massive galaxies are tightly connected to the assembly of their dark matter halos.

The AIDA-TNG project: 3D halo shapes

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. The shapes of dark matter halos can be used to constrain the fundamental properties of dark matter. In standard cold dark matter (CDM) cosmologies, halos are typically triaxial, with a preference for prolate configurations; however, including ...

A New Stellar Mass Proxy for Subhalo Abundance Matching

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Subhalo abundance matching (SHAM) has played an important role in improving our understanding of how galaxies populate their host dark matter halos.

Void Scaling and Void Profiles in CDM Models

open access: yes, 2001
An analysis of voids using cosmological N-body simulations of cold dark matter models is presented. It employs a robust statistics of voids, that was recently applied to discriminate between data from the Las Campanas Redshift Survey and different ...

Closing the Gap between Observed Low-mass Galaxy H i Kinematics and Cold Dark Matter Predictions

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Testing the standard cosmological model (ΛCDM) at small scales is challenging. Galaxies that inhabit low-mass dark matter halos provide an ideal test bed for dark matter models by linking observational properties of galaxies at small scales (low mass ...

DARK MATTER HALOS IN GALAXIES AND GLOBULAR CLUSTER POPULATIONS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2014
We combine a new, comprehensive database for globular cluster populations in all types of galaxies with a new calibration of galaxy halo masses based entirely on weak lensing. Correlating these two sets of data, we find that the mass ratio $η\equiv M_{GCS}/M_{h}$ (total mass in globular clusters, divided by halo mass) is essentially constant at ...

EDGE: the shape of dark matter haloes in the faintest galaxies

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2023
ABSTRACT Collisionless dark matter only (DMO) structure formation simulations predict that dark matter (DM) haloes are prolate in their centres and triaxial towards their outskirts. The addition of gas condensation transforms the central DM shape to be rounder and more oblate.

Women in space: A review of known physiological adaptations and health perspectives

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Exposure to the spaceflight environment causes adaptations in most human physiological systems, many of which are thought to affect women differently from men. Since only 11.5% of astronauts worldwide have been female, these issues are largely understudied.
