Dynamics of Mergers [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.Space Sci. 266 (1999) 195-205, 1999
I review the dynamics of galaxy mergers, paying particular attention to the triggering of gaseous inflows and onset of ultraluminous activity in galaxies.

Bar Dynamical Friction and Disk Galaxy Dark Matter Content [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2002
I present some new results, from simulations and observations, of the constraints bar pattern speeds place on the dark matter content of disk galaxies.

The diverse physical origins of stars in the dynamically hot bulge: CALIFA vs. IllustrisTNG [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We compare the internal stellar structures of central galaxies in the TNG50 and TNG100 simulations and field galaxies in the CALIFA survey. The luminosity fractions of the dynamically cold, warm, and hot components in both TNG50 and TNG100 galaxies exhibit general consistency with those observed in CALIFA galaxies.

Formation of collisional ring galaxies in Milgromian dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes
Ring galaxies are rare in the Universe. A head-on or off-centre collision between an intruder galaxy and a disc galaxy leads to a collisional ring galaxy (CRG) when the intruder-to-target mass ratio (ITMR) is over 0.1 in Newtonian dynamics. Within the framework of Milgromian dynamics, the strong equivalence principle is violated due to the presence of ...

Kinematical small-scale fluctuations do not affect the measurement of the dynamical mass of galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes
The stellar kinematics of low-mass galaxies are usually observed to be very unsmooth with significant kinematical fluctuations in small scales, which cannot be consistent with the projected centrosymmetric stellar kinematics obtained from commonly used dynamical models.
