Chemical evolution of galaxies and galaxy formation mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of Baryons in Dark Matter Halos — PoS(BDMH2004), 2004
I will describe the results if models for the chemical evolution of galaxies of different morphological type (ellipticals, spirals and irregulars), and compare them with observations in order to impose constraints on the mechianisms of formation and evolution of galaxies.

Investigating the effects of degradation and restoration on face recognition in under‐display cameras

open access: yesJournal of the Society for Information Display, EarlyView.
Under‐display camera (UDC) enables full‐screen displays but degrades facial recognition accuracy due to diffraction‐induced distortions. This paper introduces three UDC face recognition datasets generated using a GAN trained on synthetic and real‐world images with flares.

Evaluation of Arclight Frugal Smartphone Video Otoscopy

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Frugal innovations are essential in low‐resource settings to provide cost‐effective medical solutions without compromising functionality. The Arclight, which functions as both an ophthalmoscope and an otoscope, is an effective, low‐cost tool for (video) ear examinations in low‐resource settings.

A Review of Recent Observations of Galactic Winds Driven by Star Formation

open access: yesGalaxies, 2018
Galaxy-scale outflows of gas, or galactic winds (GWs), driven by energy from star formation are a pivotal mechanism for regulation of star formation in the current model of galaxy evolution.

Anti‐Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Bacteriophage Loaded Electrospun Fibers for Antibacterial Wound Dressings

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Multidrug resistant Pseudomonas (P.) aeruginosa is detected in many infected wounds and is challenging to treat with antibiotics. As an alternative, this work incorporates anti‐P. aeruginosa Neko phages into electrospun fibres to explore their potential for treating infected wounds.

The impact of early massive galaxy formation on the cosmic microwave background

open access: yesNuclear Physics B
The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies, corrected for foreground effects, form the foundation of cosmology and support the Big Bang model.

Galaxy Formation and Evolution: Recent Progress [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2001
In this series of lectures I review recent observational progress in constraining models of galaxy formation and evolution highlighting the importance advances in addressing questions of the assembly history and origin of the Hubble sequence in the context of modern pictures of structure formation.

DICED (Database of Identified Cleavage Sites Endemic to Diseases States): A Searchable Web Interface for Terminomics/Degradomics

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Proteolysis is an irreversible posttranslational modification with immense biological impact. Owing to its high disease significance, there is growing interest in investigating proteolysis on the proteome scale, termed degradomics. We developed ‘Database of Identified Cleavage sites Endemic to Disease states’ (DICED; https://diced.lerner.ccf ...
