Galaxy Pairs in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey - II: The Effect of Environment on Interactions

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2010
We use a sample of close galaxy pairs selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 4 (SDSS DR4) to investigate in what environments galaxy mergers occur and how the results of these mergers depend on differences in local galaxy density.

Effect of low-mass galaxy interactions on their star formation [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2023
According to the $\Lambda$ cold dark matter model of galaxy formation, the hierarchical assembly process is scale-free and interactions between galaxies in all mass ranges are expected.

Galaxy Interactions in Filaments and Sheets: Effects of the Large-scale Structures Versus the Local Density [PDF]

open access: yesResearch in Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2022
Major interactions are known to trigger star formation in galaxies and alter their color. We study the major interactions in filaments and sheets using SDSS data to understand the influence of large-scale environments on galaxy interactions.

Investigating the Effect of Galaxy Interactions on Star Formation at 0.5 < z < 3.0 [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2022
Observations and simulations of interacting galaxies and mergers in the local universe have shown that interactions can significantly enhance the star formation rates (SFRs) and fueling of active galactic nuclei (AGN).

New tests of dark sector interactions from the full-shape galaxy power spectrum [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2022
We explore the role of redshift-space galaxy clustering data in constraining non-gravitational interactions between dark energy (DE) and dark matter (DM), for which state-of-the-art limits have so far been obtained from late-time background measurements.

Spatially resolved star formation and fuelling in galaxy interactions [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2020
We investigate the spatial structure and evolution of star formation and the interstellar medium (ISM) in interacting galaxies. We use an extensive suite of parsec-scale galaxy-merger simulations (stellar mass ratio = 2.5:1), which employs the ...

SDSS-IV MaNGA: Spatial Evolution of Star Formation Triggered by Galaxy Interactions [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2019
Galaxy interaction is considered a key driver of galaxy evolution and star formation (SF) history. In this paper, we present an empirical picture of the radial extent of interaction-triggered SF along the merger sequence.

H i 21 cm Extended Structures to the Northeast and Southwest of NGC 5595: VLA Observations of the Disk Galaxy Pair NGC 5595 and NGC 5597

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
We report VLA B-configuration observations of the H i 21 cm line on the close disk galaxy pair NGC 5595 and NGC 5597. At the angular resolution of the observations, ∼7.″1 × 4.″2, while most of the H i 21 cm in NGC 5595 and NGC 5597 has the same extent as

Triggering Star Formation by Galaxy-Galaxy Interactions [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 2004
We analyzed the effects of having a close companion on the star formation activity of galaxies in the 8K galaxy pair catalog selected from the 2dFGRS. We found that, statistically, galaxies with rp < 25h−1 kpc and ΔV < 100km s−1 have enhanced star formation with respect to isolated galaxies with the same luminosity and redshift distribution.

The Effect of Galaxy Interactions on Molecular Gas Properties [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2018
Galaxy interactions are often accompanied by an enhanced star formation rate (SFR). Since molecular gas is essential for star formation, it is vital to establish whether and by how much galaxy interactions affect the molecular gas properties.
