The optical morphologies of the 2 Jy sample of radio galaxies: evidence for galaxy interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present deep Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph South (GMOS-S)/Gemini optical broad-band images for a complete sample of 46 southern 2 Jy radio galaxies at intermediate redshifts (0.05

Microfluidic Engineering of Chitosan‐Coated Nanoemulsions for Controlled Release and Stability in Space Pharmaceutics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Microfluidic engineering enables the fabrication of chitosan‐coated, melatonin‐loaded nanoemulsions with controlled release and enhanced physicochemical stability for space pharmaceutics. Interfacial biopolymer coating modulates droplet behavior under accelerated thermal stress and simulated microgravity.

When is a Bulge Not a Bulge? Revealing the Satellite Nature of NGC 5474’s Bulge

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
A satellite galaxy of the nearby spiral M101, NGC 5474 has a prominent bulge offset from the kinematic center of the underlying star-forming disk that has gained attention in recent years.

A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

Radio Diagnostics Of Galaxy Interactions [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1999
The Hickson Compact Groups (Hickson 1982) are relatively isolated systems of galaxies with projected separations comparable to the diameters of the galaxies themselves and are an ideal laboratory for the study of the effects of interactions on the various properties of galaxies.

COMBINED EFFECTS OF GALAXY INTERACTIONS AND LARGE-SCALE ENVIRONMENT ON GALAXY PROPERTIES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We inspect the coupled dependence of physical parameters of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey galaxies on the small-scale (distance to and morphology of the nearest neighbor galaxy) and the large-scale (background density smoothed over 20 nearby galaxies ...

Galaxy Evolution in Compact Groups. III. Structural Analysis of Galaxies and Dynamical State of Non-isolated Compact Groups

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Compact groups (CGs) of galaxies are dense systems where projected separations are comparable to their optical diameters. A subset—non-isolated CGs—are embedded within major structures. Using multiband S-PLUS data, we analyse galaxies in 122 non-isolated

A Bifunctional T3SS‐Effector Simultaneously Cleaves Host MAP Kinase and Inhibits PPM1A Phosphatase

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pathogenic bacteria exploit the metalloprotease effector NleD to subvert host defenses. Structural, biochemical, and infection analyses reveal a bifunctional mechanism by which NleD binds and inhibits the host phosphatase PPM1A while preserving its proteolytic activity against MAPKs.

Galaxies Caught in Transition: The Role of Group Environment in Shaping the Mass–Size Relation in the Local Universe

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The stellar mass–size relation is a sensitive probe of how environment shapes galaxy structure. We analyse this relation in the local Universe for galaxies in compact groups (CGs), low-mass groups ( M _vir ≤ 10 ^13 M _⊙ ), and high-mass groups, comparing

Star formation efficiency in galaxy interactions and mergers: a statistical study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We investigate the enhancement of star formation efficiency in galaxy interactions and mergers by numerical simulations of several hundred galaxy collisions.
