The Galaxy in Context: Structural, Kinematic, and Integrated Properties [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2016
Our Galaxy, the Milky Way, is a benchmark for understanding disk galaxies. It is the only galaxy whose formation history can be studied using the full distribution of stars from faint dwarfs to supergiants.

Environmental effects on galaxy properties

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2003
This is a study concerning the investigation of galaxy formation and evolution in small-scale structures and the influence of the environment on the properties of galaxies. The environment plays a key role in the evolution of galaxies since it governs the type of encounters.

Dependence of the clustering properties of galaxies on galaxy age

Chinese Journal of Physics, 2016
Abstract From the Main galaxy data of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 10 (SDSS DR10), we construct two volume-limited samples with the luminosity −20.5 ≤ M r  ≤−18.5 and −22.5 ≤ M r  ≤−20.5, respectively, and explore the dependence of the clustering properties of galaxies on galaxy age by cluster analysis.

Clustering properties of galaxies with different galaxy morphologies

Astroparticle Physics, 2008
Abstract From the volume-limited main galaxy sample of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 6 (SDSS DR6), we construct an early-type sample and a late-type sample, and perform comparative studies of clustering properties between them. It is found that the distribution of late-type galaxies is more filamentary.

The Dependence of Satellite Galaxy Kinematics on Galaxy Properties

Chinese Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2018
Abstract The relations between the kinematics of satellites and the properties of hosts and satellites themselves are investigated in this paper. Our sample of hosts and satellites is selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) data by adopting a self-adapted method developed by van den Bosch et al.
