JHK Spectra of the z=2.39 Radio Galaxy 53W002 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present low-resolution, near-IR JHK spectra of the weak z=2.39 radio galaxy 53W002, obtained with the OH-airglow Suppressor spectrograph (OHS) and Cooled Infrared Spectrograph and Camera for OHS (CISCO) on the Subaru Telescope.

ISO Spectroscopy of Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies

open access: yesAstrophysics and Space Science, 1999
Spectroscopy from the Infrared Space Observatory ISO has for the first timeprovided the sensitivity to exploit the diagnostic power ofmid-infrared fine structure lines and PAH features for the study ofultraluminous infrared galaxies (LIR >1012 L ⊙). We report on observations obtainedwith SWS, ISOPHOT-S, and the CVF option of ISOCAM.

Long-slit spectroscopy of starburst galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1988
We present high-resolution, long-slit spectra of nine optically bright nuclear star-burst galaxies (SBGs) selected from the sample of Balzano from which we measure line strengths, line widths, and velocity profiles along the slit in the Hα, [N II], and [S II] emission lines.

The Sloan Bright Arcs Survey : Six Strongly Lensed Galaxies at z=0.4-1.4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present new results of our program to systematically search for strongly lensed galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) imaging data. In this study six strong lens systems are presented which we have confirmed with follow-up spectroscopy and ...

Machine Learning Method for Predicting the Merge and Morphology of Galaxies through Near-Infrared Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2022
Astronomy is experiencing rapid growth in the size and complexity of data. This reinforces the development of data-driven science as a useful complement to the current model of model-based data analysis.

Spectroscopy of Luminous Infrared Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1999
A review of recent optical and infrared spectroscopic results on luminous infrared galaxies is presented. The main emphasis is on the ultraluminous objects. Possible correlations with infrared luminosity are identified. These results are used to constrain the nature of the dominant energy source in luminous infrared galaxies, and to test whether these ...

Spectroscopy of the galaxy components of N and Seyfert galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1987
Nuclear and off-nuclear spectra of nine active galaxies are presented. The sample consists of four Seyfert galaxies, two N galaxies, one Seyfert radio galaxy, and one liner/Seyfert 2 galaxy. All of the objects show continuum emission off the nucleus. Four clearly show absorption features from a stellar population.

Minor Mergers Are Not Enough: The Importance of Major Mergers during Brightest Cluster Galaxy Assembly

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
We investigate the roles of major and minor mergers during brightest cluster galaxy (BCG) assembly using surface brightness profiles, line indices, and fundamental plane relations.

Spectroscopy of Three SBS Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1996
Three galaxies from Second Byurakan Sky Survey have been studied. The spectra of these galaxies were obtained at 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. For these objects line widths and emission line ratios were measured and ionization mechanism and chemical abundances were determined.
