Neural Surrogate HMC: On Using Neural Likelihoods for Hamiltonian Monte Carlo in Simulation‐Based Inference

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract Bayesian inference methods such as Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) typically require repeated computations of the likelihood function, but in some scenarios, this is infeasible and alternative methods are needed. Simulation‐based inference methods address this problem by using machine learning to amortize computations.

A 400‐Year Antarctic Ice‐Core Perchlorate Record Reveals Variability in Stratospheric Chlorine Chemistry

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
Abstract Perchlorate (ClO4−) in polar ice preserves past chlorine oxidation chemistry; however, multi‐centennial Antarctic ClO4− records and the mechanisms controlling their variability remain poorly constrained. Here, we present the first 400‐year (1616−2016) ClO4− record from an Antarctic ice core, revealing two regimes separated around 1980.

Cosmic Radiation Dose‐Rates for Civil Aviation in the Middle East: Vertical Structure, Solar Modulation, and Comparison With Models

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract High‐altitude balloon measurements were conducted over southern Israel (30°35′N, 34°45′E; 850 m a.s.l., geomagnetic rigidity cutoff 10.3 GV) to characterize the vertical profiles of atmospheric ionization and radiation up to ∼35 km. Six balloon launches between October 2014 and August 2016 recorded the variability of atmospheric ionization ...

Episodic Feedback in Triple Active Galactic Nucleus Candidate SDSS J0849+1114 Revealed by Extended Ionized Gas

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Galaxy mergers funnel gas toward the nuclei, igniting starbursts and active galactic nuclei (AGNs). The AGN feedback can reshape the host galaxy and regulate both star formation and supermassive black hole accretion.

Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA) : galaxy close pairs, mergers and the future fate of stellar mass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
ASGR acknowledges STFC and SUPA funding that were used to do this work. GAMA is funded by the STFC (UK), the ARC (Australia), the AAO and the participating institutions. We use a highly complete subset of the Galaxy And Mass Assembly II (GAMA-II) redshift

Bronchoscopy Robot with Enhanced Flexibility and Stability via Multi‐Segment Variable Stiffness Catheter

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2026.
This work presents a magnetic bronchoscopy robot with a novel multi‐segment variable stiffness catheter. This catheter can not only move flexibly in the narrow bronchi but also harden according to the need to provide support. Combined with remote wireless magnetic field drive, it provides a more precise and effective solution for biopsy of deep lung ...

Shining a Light on the Connections between Galactic Outflows Seen in Absorption and Emission Lines

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Galactic outflows provide important feedback effects to regulate the evolution of host galaxies. Two primary diagnostics of outflows are broad and/or blueshifted emission and absorption lines.

The mass-dependent interplay of active galacitc nuclei and supernova feedback in shaping the LX–T relation of early-type galaxies

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
The observed X-ray luminosity–temperature (LX–T) relation of hot gas in early-type galaxies deviates significantly from the prediction of purely gravitational heating, providing a key constraint on non-gravitational processes such as supernova (SN) and ...

Bridging Theory and Practice: Digital Twin Simulation of a Heat Exchanger in Laboratories for Engineering Students

open access: yesComputer Applications in Engineering Education, Volume 34, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Digital twins serve as virtual replicas of physical systems. They can be used as a tool for engineering education by revealing the underlying principles behind unit operations. The project aimed to integrate digital twins into university engineering lab courses, complementing traditional methods by bridging the gap between experimentation and ...

Turbulence and Star Formation Suppression in Elliptical Galaxies: The Role of Active Galactic Nucleus Jet–Wind Interaction

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Winds and jets are symbiotic when the accretion rate is low, according to black hole accretion theory. Both components are potentially important for active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback, but previous works typically include only jets with free ...
