Culture of Steinernema glaseri on three solid media and their virulence against Galleria mellonella larvae

open access: yes, 2023
Steinernema glaseri is a potential biocontrol agent against white grubs of the Phyllophaga spp. complex; however, its suitability for in vitro multiplication has been scarcely investigated.

Recent Advances in the Use of Galleria mellonella Model to Study Immune Responses against Human Pathogens

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2018
The use of invertebrates for in vivo studies in microbiology is well established in the scientific community. Larvae of Galleria mellonella are a widely used model for studying pathogenesis, the efficacy of new antimicrobial compounds, and immune ...

CHANGES IN THE HEMOCYTE PICTURE OF GALLERIA MELLONELLA (LINNAEUS)

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1967
1. The hemocytes of Galleria mellonella (Linnaeus) larvae were identified and differentially counted in unfixed hemolymph with phase microscopy. The numbers of hemocytes per microliter of hemolymph were obtained from both unfixed and heat-fixed larvae. Hemolymph volumes were determined by the amaranth red method.

A Reliable Assay to Evaluate the Virulence of Aspergillus nidulans Using the Alternative Animal Model Galleria mellonella (Lepidoptera)

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2017
The greater wax moth Galleria mellonella has emerged as an effective heterologous host to study fungal pathogenesis and the efficacy of promising antifungal drugs (Mylonakis et al., 2005; Li et al., 2013).

Efficacy of freezing and gamma radiation for controlling of Galleria mellonella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)

open access: yesJournal of Basic and Applied Zoology
Background The greater wax moth, Galleria mellonella L. (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), is a serious insect pest of honey bee combs in hives. Therefore, controlling this pest is very important for protecting bee hives.

Visualizing Hemocyte Extracellular Traps in Galleria Mellonella [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) were recently found to be an additional method that neutrophils use to combat pathogens. They are composed of nuclear DNA and proteins that possess anti-microbial properties.

From moths to caterpillars: Ideal conditions for Galleria mellonella rearing for in vivo microbiological studies

open access: yesVirulence, 2018
Galleria mellonella is a well-accepted insect model for the study of pathogen-host interactions and antimicrobial compounds. The main advantages of this model include the low cost of maintenance, the fast life cycle, the possibility of using a large ...

INJURY INDUCED MOLTING INGALLERIA MELLONELLALARVAE

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1972
1. Injury to less than 1-day-old last instar larvae of Galleria induced an additional larval molt.2. 4 and 6-day-old larvae on injury delay their succeeding pupal molt.3. Injury induction of an additional molt as well as the delay of molting appear to be mediated via the brain.4.

Galleria mellonella infection model.

open access: yes, 2019
Survival of Galleria mellonella larvae after infection with wild type (wt), S5nA deletion (ΔS5nA) and complementation (comp) strains and a mock control inoculated with PBS instead of bacteria (control).

Transplanting human infant gut microbiome species into Galleria mellonella

open access: yesBMC Research Notes
Objective Study of the human infant gut microbiome requires the use of surrogate mammalian species such as mice. We sought to investigate the usefulness of the greater wax moth larva, Galleria mellonella, as an alternative.
