CHI '14 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2014
A computer game, in addition to being playable and fun, has all of the characteristics of a modern high quality user interface. The ubiquity of multimedia web interfaces and gamification leads designers and developers to look at how games are designed and constructed.

Developing MOBA games using the Unity game engine
2017 40th International Convention on Information and Communication Technology, Electronics and Microelectronics (MIPRO), 2017MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games are currently one of the most popular online video game genres. This paper discusses implementation of a typical MOBA game prototype for Windows platform in a popular game engine Unity 5. The focus is put on using the built-in Unity components in a MOBA setting, developing additional behaviours using Unity's

Game development with Game Maker, Flash and Unity
Proceedings of the 49th Annual Southeast Regional Conference, 2011This tutorial will present and compare three software platforms for developing video games: Game Maker, Flash and Unity Pro. Game Maker is suited for developing quick prototypes. Flash is a natural choice for production of web-based software and Unity is a good choice for gamers who wish to develop and deploy their products to a multitude of platforms.

Child-centered game development (CCGD): developing games with children at school
Personal and Ubiquitous Computing, 2012Children represent an increasingly relevant target group of the game industry. Nevertheless, they are rarely involved in development processes. This article introduces child-centered game development (CCGD) approaches for the game design within the context of the school.

BDI agents for game development
Proceedings of the first international joint conference on Autonomous agents and multiagent systems part 2 - AAMAS '02, 2002The study of game related topics has long been the subject of research and development, however game Artificial Intelligence (AI) predominantly uses classical AI simulation techniques. Older computational models such as state machines continue to be used as the back bone for game AI development even though alternative models are available.

Video games have become a driving force for innovation in many aspects of the entertainment industry and beyond. Since gaming may also be in a position to drive the emerging "maker movement", we consider the "DIY game industry". In this half-day course, attendees will be introduced to DIY Game Console construction and programming by building their own ...

Games for teaching software development
Proceedings of the 18th ACM conference on Innovation and technology in computer science education, 2013We have been using games to teach software development for a number of years now with our MSc IT students as a warm-up to the group project over the summer. Games, and game-like processes without accompanying lectures can provide the participants with enough insight into the thinking and rationale of agile, lean, and kanban approaches to software ...

Software Architecture in Game Development
Seventh Working IEEE/IFIP Conference on Software Architecture (WICSA 2008), 2008Summary form only given. Video games have now existed in various forms for over 30 years, and have evolved from humble beginnings into remarkably complex software projects. The ever present emphasis on an immersive audio/visual experience has put game developers in the position of being on the bleeding edge of exploring the performance of modern ...

Taxonomy of Game Development Approaches
2016While it might seem desirable to “program” games “close to a high-level specification”, the pragmatic reality has not, until very recently, allowed this. In this chapter we discuss the fundamental aspects that define a game and show how these aspects are captured by means of the so-called game development tools.
