Astrophysics: Extreme emission seen from $γ$-ray bursts [PDF]
Cosmic explosions called $\gamma$-ray bursts are the most energetic bursting events in the universe. Observations of extremely high-energy emission from two $\gamma$-ray bursts provide a new way to study these gigantic explosions.

General relativistic simulations of compact binary mergers as engines for short gamma-ray bursts [PDF]
Black hole—neutron star (BHNS) and neutron star—neutron star (NSNS) binaries are among the favored candidates for the progenitors of the black hole—disk systems that may be the engines powering short-hard gamma ray bursts.

Energetics of Gamma‐Ray Bursts [PDF]
We determine the distribution of total energy emitted by gamma-ray bursts for bursts with fluences and distance information. Our core sample consists of eight bursts with BATSE spectra and spectroscopic redshifts. We extend this sample by adding four bursts with BATSE spectra and host galaxy R magnitudes. From these R magnitudes we calculate a redshift

The Fermi GBM gamma-ray burst time-resolved spectral catalog: brightest bursts in the first four years [PDF]
We aim to obtain high-quality time-resolved spectral fits of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) observed by the Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM) on board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope.

More than fifty years have elapsed from the first discovery of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) with American Vela satellites, and more than twenty-five years from the discovery with the BeppoSAX satellite of the first X-ray afterglow of a GRB.

Outliers in Spectral Time Lag-Selected Gamma Ray Bursts
It is possible that astrophysical samples are polluted by some outliers, which might belong to a different sub-class. By removing the outliers, the underlying statistical features may be revealed.

The cooling phase of Type-I X-ray bursts in 4U 1636-53 [PDF]
Time-resolved spectra during the cooling phase of thermonuclear X-ray bursts in low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) can be used to measure the radii and masses of neutron stars. We analyzed ~ 300 bursts of the LMXB 4U 1636-53 using data from the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer.

A revised analysis of gamma-ray bursts’ prompt efficiencies [PDF]
The prompt Gamma-Ray Bursts' (GRBs) efficiency is an important clue on the emission mechanism producing the $\gamma$-rays. Previous estimates of the kinetic energy of the blast waves, based on the X-ray afterglow luminosity $L_X$, suggested that this ...

I consider various possibilities for making gamma-ray bursts, particularly from close binaries. In addition to the much-studied neutron star+neutron star and black hole+neutron star cases usually considered good candidates for short-duration bursts, there are also other possibilities.

Burst properties of the most recurring transient magnetar SGR J1935+2154 [PDF]
We present timing and time-integrated spectral analysis of 127 bursts from SGR J1935+2154. These bursts were observed with the Gamma-ray Burst Monitor on the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope and the Burst Alert Telescope on the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory during the source's four active episodes from 2014 to 2016.
