Location of Transient Gamma-Ray Sources with Thin Flat Scintillators
IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 1976Thin flat slabs of scintillator are a useful means of measuring angular location of gamma-ray fluxes of astronomical interest. A statistical estimate of position error has been made of two scintillator systems suitable for gamma-ray burst location from a balloon or satellite platform.

A transient MeV range gamma-ray source observed by HEAO–1
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1994The UCSD/MIT hard X‐ray and gamma‐ray instrument on the HEAO–1 surveyed the region near the galactic center three times during its lifetime in 1977–1979. During the Sept.–Oct. 1977 scan, a gamma‐ray source in the 300–650 keV range was detected south of the galactic center. The source was below threshold sensitivity in the Spring and Fall of 1978.

Gamma-ray burst locations from the Burst and Transient Source Experiment
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1991The Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) consists of eight anisotropic γ‐ray spectrometers at the corners of the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory. BATSE monitors the full sky from a fixed orientation and determines the direction of γ‐ray bursts with an accuracy appropriate for studying the bursts’ celestial distribution.

The burst and transient source experiment for the gamma-ray observatory
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1982The Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) is a highly sensitive, all‐sky monitor for the Gamma‐Ray Observatory (GRO). The eight scintillation detector modules of BATSE are positioned around the GRO spacecraft provide a uniform view of the entire sky above the horizon. Each module is 20 in. in diameter, 0.5 in.

Estimating significance in observations of variable and transient gamma-ray sources
Astroparticle Physics, 2017Abstract The standard method for estimating the statistical significance of a gamma-ray source detection is that introduced by Li & Ma (1983), Eq. (17). In observing sources with time-dependent light curves, one can improve on this method by including approximate a priori knowledge of the source temporal behavior.

Observation of AGILE transient $$\gamma $$-ray sources in coincidence with cosmic neutrino events

Scienze Fisiche e Naturali, 2019The origin of the diffuse flux of very high-energy cosmic neutrinos above TeV energies observed by the IceCube experiment at the South Pole is still largely unknown. Simultaneous multi-frequency observations of the uncertainty location regions of these cosmic neutrinos are needed to identify the possible electromagnetic counterpart.
