Dynamic cracking properties and generating conditions of coal under rapid gas release
Gas release tests revealed that crack initiation and propagation are jointly controlled by initial crack length, residual strength, and gas release velocity. A new outburst risk coefficient was thus developed from a fracture mechanics perspective, offering a novel predictive approach.

Clinical impact of magnetic resonance imaging distortions on gamma knife radiosurgery
Introduction Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the preferred imaging modality for Leksell Gamma Knife® (LGK) stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) treatment planning (TP) due to superior soft tissue definition compared to computed tomography (CT).

Targeted next-generation sequencing of dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma in the skull base reveals combined TP53 and PTEN mutations with increased proliferation index, an implication for pathogenesis [PDF]
Dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma (DDCS) is a rare disease with a dismal prognosis. DDCS consists of two morphologically distinct components: the cartilaginous and noncartilaginous components.

Abstract Epilepsy surgery remains the most effective treatment for focal drug‐resistant epilepsy, and stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) is increasingly used to define the epileptogenic‐zone network (EZN) and guide curative or palliative interventions.

The concept of radiosurgery and its requirements are presented. Dedicated radiosurgical tools include the modified linear accelerators working with a single rotating beam and the Gamma Knife with multiple stationary radiation sources. The 201 gamma beams from the cobalt 60 sources of the Gamma Knife intersect within 0.3 mm and it is possible to align ...

Subtotal petrosectomy and cerebrospinal fluid leakage in unilateral anacusis [PDF]
Objective This study presents a group of patients experiencing recurrent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage associated with ipsilateral anacusis who underwent subtotal petrosectomies with the goal of stopping the CSF leak and preventing meningitis ...

Abstract Objective One‐third of patients with epilepsy, particularly those with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE), remain resistant to medication. Resective surgery, the gold standard, is highly invasive and carries significant risks. Here, using a mouse model, we explored the potential of microbeam radiation therapy (MRT), a new technique based on ...

A retrospective analysis of survival and prognostic factors after stereotactic radiosurgery for aggressive meningiomas [PDF]
BACKGROUND: While most meningiomas are benign, aggressive meningiomas are associated with high levels of recurrence and mortality. A single institution’s Gamma Knife radiosurgical experience with atypical and malignant meningiomas is presented ...
