Shielding for Beta-gamma Radiation

Health Physics, 1993
The build-up factor, B, for lead was expressed as a polynominal cubic function of the relaxation length, mu x, and incorporated in a "general beta-gamma shielding equation." A computer program was written to determine shielding thickness for polyenergetic beta-gamma sources without resorting to the conventional "add-one-HVL" method.

Inactivation of Cholinesterases by Gamma Radiation

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1956
Animals and in vitro preparations of cholinesterase were exposed to massive doses of gamma radiation from a barium-lanthanum source and from two x-ray sources. The cholinesterase activity and the activity-pS kinetics of rat brain were unaffected by an in vivo dose of 60,000 r from the isotope source.

Gamma-radiation of193Au

Czechoslovak Journal of Physics, 1970
The gamma-radiation of193Au has been studied by means of a Ge(Li) semiconductor detector. In addition to the transitions observed by Svahn et. al. (Z. Physik210 (1968), 466), 21 new transitions have been found. With the use of the relative conversion line intensities from the above reference and the γ-ray intensities of this work, the number of ...

Economics of gamma radiation processing

The International Journal of Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1959
Abstract The availability, cost and utilization of γ-radiation sources are discussed. The effects on radiation processing costs of variations in these factors and in the scale of operation are considered. It is concluded that probable costs do not preclude immediate applications if plant is efficiently designed and processing is on a sufficiently ...

132Cs gamma radiation

Czechoslovak Journal of Physics, 1967
The decay of132Cs was studied by means of Ge(Li) detectors and a magnetic beta-ray spectrometer. The energies and intensities of the transitions in132Xe and132Ba were determined. Of the decay schemes proposed hitherto, that of Johnson et al. [Phys. Rev.138 (1965), B 520] was confirmed.
