Priority Intersections, Gap and Lag Acceptance

1989
(a) Describe the operation of priority highway intersections and the function of lag and gap acceptance. (b) The observations given below were obtained at a priority intersection, calculate the unbiased and biased mean gap and lag acceptances together with their standard deviations and the critical lag.

Gap Acceptance and Wait Time at Unsignalized Intersections

1991
The primary purpose of this study is to determine if driver gap acceptance behavior changes as the time spent waiting for an acceptable gap increases. We propose three hypotheses dealing with this issue and present a sample of results pertaining to the first two hypotheses.

Opposed right-turning vehicles and gap acceptance

1989
Right-turning vehicles present particular problems at signal-controlled intersections. On a signal approach, right-turn vehicles may be given an exclusive right-turn lane or they may be mixed with straight ahead vehicles. If vehicles do not have to give way, that is, the flow is unopposed, then the maximum discharge or saturation flow can be calculated
