Does Sentinel-1A Backscatter Capture the Spatial Variability in Canopy Gaps of Tropical Agroforests? A Proof-of-Concept in Cocoa Landscapes in Cameroon

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
A reliable estimation and monitoring of tree canopy cover or shade distribution is essential for a sustainable cocoa production via agroforestry systems.

Infection Control Practices for Vascular Access Management in Hemodialysis: Results From a Nationwide Survey of Japanese National University Hospitals

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Bloodstream infections due to repeated vascular access (VA) puncture and circuit connections remain major concerns in hemodialysis. Therefore, we examined current practices for glove, disinfectant, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use according to VA type in national university hospitals in Japan.

Composite fermions and the energy gap in the fractional quantum Hall effect [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 1995
The energy gaps for the fractional quantum Hall effect at filling fractions 1/3, 1/5, and 1/7 have been calculated by variational Monte Carlo using Jain's composite fermion wave functions before and after projection onto the lowest Landau level. Before projection there is a contribution to the energy gaps from the first excited Landau level.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications in Uremic Toxins From 1991 to 2024

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Uremic toxins are a growing area of research in nephrology, with significant implications in the progression and treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the management of end‐stage kidney disease (ESKD). This bibliometric analysis aims to evaluate the global research trends, key contributors, and the impact of publications in ...

Sensitivity of gap fraction to maize architectural characteristics based on 4D model simulations

open access: yes, 2007
The influence of maize architectural characteristics on gap fraction (Po) is investigated based on a 4D canopy model. This model simulates maize canopies from few input variables: maximum leaf area per plant, maximum number of leaves, plant density ...

Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Experimental Identification of the Void Fraction in a Large Hydrodynamic Offset Halves Bearing

open access: yesLubricants
A common approach to optimising hydrodynamic journal bearings for power loss is to reduce the lubricant supply and direct the oil to specific bearing areas where it is needed to guarantee safe operation.

Observed inter-fraction gap synchronicity in more successful candidate protocols discovered by GA search.

open access: yes, 2014
Density plots of the inter-fraction time-gap (h) for the pooled time-gaps present in the top 100 protocols (ranked by ) for BMI (top) and BMII (bottom). Note: the inter-gap fractions are aggregated into bins of size 1 h.

Fraction of Bose-Einstein condensed triplons in TlCuCl3 from magnetization data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
TlCuCl3 is a quantum-spin-(1/2) system which shows a gap between the singlet ground state of the Cu2+ dimers and the first excited triplet Sz=+1 state for magnetic fields ...
