An experimental study of gas void fraction in dilute alcohol solutions in annular gap bubble columns using a four-point conductivity probe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The influence of alcohol concentration on the gas void fraction in open tube and annular gap bubble columns has been investigated using a vertical column with an internal diameter of 0.102 m, containing a range of concentric inner tubes which formed an ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Research on radiological consequences analysis of reactor control rod ejection accident based on peak radial average fuel enthalpy rise

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Nuclear Reactor Design and Technology
The fission products residing in the fuel rod void volume (plenum and pellet-to-cladding gap) are available for release upon cladding breach, and the fission products release fraction is a key parameter for analyzing the radiological consequences of ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Inflation in the G7: mind the gap(s)? [PDF]

open access: yes
We investigate the importance of trend inflation and the real-activity gap for explaining observed inflation variation in G7 countries since 1960. Our results are based on a bivariate unobserved-components model of inflation and unemployment in which ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The Continued Fraction Spectrum of Prime Gaps

open access: yes
This paper explores the intriguing relationship between prime numbers and continued fractions by investigating the "continued fraction spectrum" of prime gaps. Prime gaps, defined as the difference between consecutive prime numbers, exhibit a complex and largely unpredictable distribution.

A new method to estimate clumping index integrating gap fraction averaging with the analysis of gap size distribution

open access: yes, 2018
Estimates of clumping index (Ω) are required to improve the indirect estimation of leaf area index (L) from optical field-based instruments like digital hemispherical photography (DHP).

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

UAV image analysis for detecting rice seedling gaps and gap effect on grain yield

open access: yesSmart Agricultural Technology
The spatial distribution of seedlings influences the structure and productivity of rice by impacting canopy light distribution, radiation use efficiency, and ultimately crop yield. This study proposes a novel approach utilizing high-resolution UAV images
