Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Public sector wage gaps in Spanish regions. [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper provides an approximation to the measurement of public sector wage gaps in Spanish regions. By using data from the European Community Household Panel, it is shown that the balance between what private firms pay in the local market and what the

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Writing on Gaps and around the Reproduction of Exclusion

open access: yes
The artistic part of my thesis is the video essay Gaps, or; Reproducing Exclusion as exhibited as part of the annual MFA Degree Show Kuvan Kevät at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki, in the Spring 2024. In an effort to accommodate

Estimating Output Gaps [PDF]

open access: yes
The output gap, defined as actual less potential output, is an important variable in its own right and as an indicator of incipient changes in inflation.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Explaining the gaps in labour productivity for some developed countries

open access: yes
Modern economic theories explain differences in productivity and economic growth across countries by differences in political and economic institutions, and differences in culture, geographical location, policies, and laws.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Two-parameter locus of boundary crisis: mind the gaps!

open access: yes, 2010
Boundary crisis is a mechanism for destroying a chaotic attractor when one parameter is varied. In a two-parameter setting the locus of boundary crisis is associated with curves of homo- or heteroclinic tangency bifurcations of saddle periodic orbits. It
