Spacer flashover in Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) with humid SF6 under different electrical stresses

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, 2020
Humid insulating gas (SF6) has been observed in a case study of 631 CB-bays of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) operating under tropical conditions. The routine gas quality check in the case study reported that 20% of the non-Circuit Breaker enclosures have humidity above the value recommended by the IEEE and IEC standards.

A Classification System for Insulation Defect Identification of Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS), Based on Voiceprint Recognition Technology [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Insulation defects that occur in gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), which is one of the most important types of equipment in the power grid, can lead to serious accidents. The ultrasonic detection method is commonly used to detect partial discharge (PD) signals in power equipment to discover defects.

Health index and risk assessment models for Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) operating under tropical conditions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, 2020
This article contains the development of the Health Index (HI) and the Risk Assessment (RA) models for Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) operating under tropical conditions. A case study of 631 bays of GIS in tropics with service time from 1 up to 30 years is used during the development of the models. The basis for the HI model is the condition assessment

GSLI‐RTMdet: An automatic nondestructive detection method for internal defects in gas‐insulated switchgear X‐DR images

open access: yesHigh Voltage, Volume 10, Issue 4, Page 890-902, August 2025.
Abstract Accurately identifying the location and type of internal defects in gas‐insulated switchgear (GIS) is a challenge. To address this challenge, this study proposes a novel method for the nondestructive detection of GIS internal defects. This method is based on x‐ray digital radiography (X‐DR) technology and an improved real‐time models for ...

Discrimination of Insulation Defects in a Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) by use of a Neural Network Based on a Chaos Analysis of Partial Discharge (CAPD) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Electrical Engineering and Technology, 2007
In this work, experimental investigation is carried out in order to design and fabricate the UHF sensor that is able to detect the partial discharges produced from 10 artificial defects introduced into the real scale 70kV GIS mock-up under high voltage within a well shielded room. As well, in order to verify the on-site applicability of our method, the

Semi-Supervised Learning-Based Partial Discharge Diagnosis in Gas-Insulated Switchgear

open access: yesIEEE Access
Effective monitoring and diagnosis of partial discharge (PD) in power equipment are crucial for maintenance, particularly given the expectations of significant increases in energy generation and consumption. Although deep neural networks have been widely

Analysis of SF6 decomposed products by fibre‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy for gas‐insulated switchgear diagnosis

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2023
Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) decomposed products analysis is highly critical in the early‐stage fault diagnosis of gas‐insulated switchgear (GIS). Spectrum technology outperforms traditional methods on non‐invasiveness, no sample preparation, and no ...

Research on Mechanical Defect Detection and Diagnosis Method for GIS Equipment Based on Vibration Signal

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Gas insulated switchgear equipment (GIS) is widely used in power system, and more attention has been paid to discharge defects than mechanical defects. However, since mechanical defects are a major cause of the failure in GIS, it is of great significance

Adsorption properties of Ni cluster modified TiO2 (1 0 1) towards SF6 decomposition gases

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2023
Online detection of insulation defects the decomposition products of SF6 plays a key role in ensuring the safe operation of the gas‐insulated switchgear (GIS) equipment. The pristine TiO2 (1 0 1) modified by Ni cluster (1–3 Ni atoms) is used as a new gas‐
