Performance Evaluation of a Full-Scale Deep U-Tube Utilizing Ozonated Oxygen as the Process Gas for Treating Drinking Water [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A deep U-tube for treating drinking water is composed of a coaxial inner tube serving as an efficient concurrent down-flow ozone dissolver and an outer column carrying out reactions between ozone and organic substances dissolved in the water after ...

The mechanics of film cooling-Part 1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1954
Thin liquid wall films flowing under the influence of high-velocity turbulent gas streams were studied for the purpose of obtaining an understanding of the mechanics of film cooling.

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Interaction of Ladle Slag With Varying SiO2 Content and Recyclate‐Based MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ladle slags (CaO/Al2O3 = 1) with 1–20 wt% SiO2 were investigated in contact with industrial MgO–C refractories fabricated from fresh magnesia and 50 wt% recyclate. The sessile drop method at 1600°C reveals intensive gas formation, delayed slag infiltration in recyclate‐based samples, and, under high‐SiO2 slag, formation of a dense MgAl2O4‐rich ...

Direct numerical simulation of a confined three-dimensional gas mixing layer with one evaporating hydrocarbon-droplet-laden stream [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Direct numerical simulations are performed of a confined three-dimensional, temporally developing, initially isothermal gas mixing layer with one stream laden with as many as 7.3×10^5 evaporating hydrocarbon droplets, at moderate gas temperature and ...

Hydrodynamic and mass transfer in inertial gas–liquid flow regimes through straight and meandering millimetric square channels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Heat-exchanger reactors are an important part of process intensification technology. For plate geometries, one solution for intensifying transfer and increasing residence times is to construct two-dimensional meandering channels.

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Development of Sustainable MgO–C Refractories Using MgO–C Recyclates and a Novel Eco‐Friendly Fructose–Tannin Binder Crosslinked With Citric Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops sustainable MgO–C refractories using recycled materials and eco‐friendly fructose–tannin binders. The enhanced performance of citric acid as a cross‐linker and functional additives on mechanical and thermomechanical properties was examined. Characterization included strength tests, immersion trials, and microstructural and inclusion

Fluid spray simulation with two-fluid nozzles [PDF]

open access: yes
Two-phase interacting flow inside a two-fluid fuel atomizer was investigated and a correction of aerodynamic and liquid-surface forces with characteristic drop diameter was obtained for liquid-jet breakup in Mach 1 gas flow.
