Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

The combustion and emission characteristics of the diesel engine operated on a dual producer gas-diesel fuel mode

open access: yesEngineering and Applied Science Research, 2019
Producer gas is a low energy density gaseous fuel converted from carbonaceous materials through a thermochemical process. The gas can be exploited to operate a diesel engine on a dual-fuel mode to partially reduce diesel fuel use.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

An LCF lifetime model for PM superalloy considering equivalent ellipsoidal inclusion

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
The non-metallic inclusions are one of the main defects in powder metallurgy (PM) superalloy, which may promote crack initiation under the cyclic loading and seriously affect the safety of aero engines.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Experimental study on the influence of the Buoyancy number on heat transfer in a pin-fins channel under rotational conditions

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
The trailing edge of turbine blades poses a significant challenge for research in internal cooling technology. In previously published studies on heat transfer coefficient (HTC), the limitations of experimental testing techniques have hindered the ...
