Exposure to electric and magnetic fields at 110 kV gas insulated substation (GIS)

IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exhibition, 2003
At Tampere University of Technology, the ELF electric and magnetic fields have been studied for several years. The studies have included measurements and calculations, as well as exposure assessments. In previous studies at TUT, electric and magnetic fields at 400 kV and 110 kV air insulated substations were measured.

Wavelet analysis used in UHF partial discharge detection in GIS [gas insulated substations]

POWERCON '98. 1998 International Conference on Power System Technology. Proceedings (Cat. No.98EX151), 2002
One of the most important subjects in monitoring GIS is PD detection. The issue is that the PD signal is weak and sensitive to external noise. In this paper, the experiments of detection PD in GIS using UHF technique is described. The results show that UHF method is effective in detecting PD in GIS and avoiding the disturbance of corona.

Comparison Between Suppressing Approaches of Very Fast Transients in Gas-Insulated Substations (GIS)

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2013
In this paper, first transient waves in the gas-insulated substation (GIS) are analyzed and methods for suppression of very fast transients (VFTs) in GISs are introduced. For suppressing VFTs, four methods are presented, including suppression by terminal components, capacitance components, adopting a resistor-fitted disconnector, and ferromagnetic ...

Special problems in gas insulated substations (GIS) and their effects on indian power system

2012 IEEE International Conference on Power System Technology (POWERCON), 2012
The increase in demand for electricity and the growing energy density in the metropolitan areas have made it necessary to extend the high voltage network right up to the consumer. Gas insulated substations provide a best solution to the above problem and have been functioning for more than 30 years around the world.

EMC philosophy applied to design the grounding systems for gas insulation switchgear (GIS) indoor substation

2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering (EEEIC), 2015
This paper presents the EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) philosophy applied to design the grounding systems of GIS Insulated Substation - GIS indoor substation. The grounding systems are characterized by the following subsystems: Main Grounding grid (60 Hz Grounding System), Equipotential Grounding grid (HF Grounding system) and Lightning Grounding ...

Effect of various design parameters on the performance of Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) using Charge Simulation Method

2011 Annual IEEE India Conference, 2011
The Insulation Performance of Compressed Gas Insulated Switchgear and Gas Insulated Transmission Line(GITL) systems can be substantially affected by the presence and movement of metallic particle contaminants. SF 6 gas is the main mode of insulation in Gas Insulated Substations(GIS).

Mitigation and Analysis of Very Fast Transient over Voltages (VFTOs) of Transformer in 1000 KV Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) Using Wavelet Transform

i-manager's Journal on Power Systems Engineering, 2016
Mitigation and analysis of very fast transient over voltages (VFTO) is very important in gas-insulated substations (GIS). In this paper a power transformer rating of 1500 MVA in 1000 kV GIS has been considered and different techniques for mitigation and analysis of VFTOs at the transformer are applied and the same results are analyzed by the ...

Solutions of essential problems of gas insulated systems for substations (GIS) and lines (GIL)

Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials (Cat. No.03CH37417), 2004
GIS and GIL are applied since several decades and proved to be very reliable and safe components of the power supply system. Extensive fundamental research was necessary for the development of the technology. Out of countless problems three are chosen to demonstrate the numerous phenomena, which had to be investigated. These are the flashover to ground
