ABSTRACT This work presents the pioneering development of an aptamer‐based electrochemical biosensor for real‐time monitoring of parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels, with a focus on intraoperative assessment during parathyroid surgery. It introduces, for the first time, the selection and characterization of aptamers targeting distinct segments of the PTH ...

Aims The aim of study was to generate quantitative data on the abundance of drug‐metabolizing enzymes and transporters (DMETs) in inflamed and non‐inflamed Crohn's disease (CD) ileum and colon, for incorporation into physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models, enabling prediction of oral drugs' pharmacokinetics (PK) perturbation in CD patients.

Dash and coworkers have fabricated a small intestine on a chip, which encapsulates the physiology and biofilm of the small intestinal epithelium. The dynamic system showed villus differentiation within 5 days of flow, and the mucus layer and biofilm showed small intestinal characteristics.

Epigastric electrical impedance for the quantitative determination of the gastric acidity
Physiological Measurement, 2008Electrical impedance measurements have been used by scientists since the 1980s to investigate the gastric function. In this work, these measurements were carried out using the epigastrograph, a device generating alternating current of 32 kHz and injecting it in the gastric area of the human body with surface electrodes, located around the abdominal ...

Limitations of the Use of Indicators for Determination of Acidity in the Gastric Lumina
American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1956Hydrogen ion indicators were injected intravenously in dogs with an actively secreting exteriorized gastric flap. The flap was frozen, sectioned and observed microscopically at –18°C. Only neutral red and Prussian blue were seen microscopically in the lumina and then only when the secretory rate was depressed to essentially zero.

By an indirect biochemical method, used for the first time for the purpose under study, the authors have screened a village population for cancer of the stomach. The organization, results and experiences obtained in this screening study are described. By determining the total lactic-acid dehydrogenase activity of the gastric juice, a ‘high-risk’ group ...

A COMPACT APPARATUS FOR THE CLINICAL DETERMINATION OF GASTRIC ACIDITY
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1925A rapid method for the determination of gastric acidity by means of test papers was recently described by us. 1 Since this description, we have devised a compact indicator set 2 for carrying out the method in clinical work. The apparatus consists of a small wooden case which contains ( a ) six vials of standard buffer solutions ranging in p H from 3 ...

Further applications of blood gas analysis to gastric acidity determination
Clinica Chimica Acta, 1993It has been shown that the transient increase in total body bicarbonate that accompanies any acceleration of gastric acid secretion (the 'alkaline tide') is derivable from the associated changes in base excess in arterial blood and is precisely equivalent to the amount of acid secreted when the latter is simultaneously recovered.
