In Vivo Wireless Sensors for Gut Microbiome Redox Monitoring [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
A perturbed gut microbiome has recently been linked with multiple disease processes, yet researchers currently lack tools that can provide in vivo, quantitative, and real-time insight into these processes and associated host-microbe interactions. We propose an in vivo wireless implant for monitoring gastrointestinal tract redox states using oxidation ...

The gut microbiota and immune checkpoint inhibitors. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Although immunotherapy has been remarkably effective across multiple cancer types, there continues to be a significant number of non-responding patients. A possible factor proposed to influence the efficacy of immunotherapies is the gut microbiome.

Gut Microbiome and Gastrointestinal Diseases

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Clinical Laboratory Science, 2018

The Equine Gastrointestinal Microbiome: Impacts of Age and Obesity [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Gastrointestinal microbial communities are increasingly being implicated in host susceptibilities to nutritional/metabolic diseases; such conditions are more prevalent in obese and/or older horses. This controlled study evaluated associations between host-phenotype and the fecal microbiome / metabolome.

Inflammation-associated enterotypes, host genotype, cage and inter-individual effects drive gut microbiota variation in common laboratory mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Murine models are a crucial component of gut microbiome research. Unfortunately, a multitude of genetic backgrounds and experimental setups, together with inter-individual variation, complicates cross-study comparisons and a global ...

Effects of Toxic Fescue Exposure on Vaginal Microbial Communities of Crossbred Beef Cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The consumption of toxic fescue by beef cattle results in several adverse physiological effects such as reduced reproductive success, severe vasoconstriction resulting in hoof sloughing, low body condition scores, hyperthermia, decreased prolactin levels,

Dirichlet-tree multinomial mixtures for clustering microbiome compositions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Studying the human microbiome has gained substantial interest in recent years, and a common task in the analysis of these data is to cluster microbiome compositions into subtypes. This subdivision of samples into subgroups serves as an intermediary step in achieving personalized diagnosis and treatment. In applying existing clustering methods to modern

MIMIX: a Bayesian Mixed-Effects Model for Microbiome Data from Designed Experiments [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Recent advances in bioinformatics have made high-throughput microbiome data widely available, and new statistical tools are required to maximize the information gained from these data. For example, analysis of high-dimensional microbiome data from designed experiments remains an open area in microbiome research.

Alterations to the Gastrointestinal Microbiome Associated with Methamphetamine Use among Young Men who have Sex with Men. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Methamphetamine (MA) use is a major public health problem in the United States, especially among people living with HIV (PLWH). Many MA-induced neurotoxic effects are mediated by inflammation and gut microbiota may play a role in this process, yet the ...

Long-term impact of fecal transplantation in healthy volunteers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has been recently approved by FDA for the treatment of refractory recurrent clostridial colitis (rCDI). Success of FTM in treatment of rCDI led to a number of studies investigating the effectiveness of its ...
