Platelet‐Rich Fibrins as Local Drug‐Delivery Carriers

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Autologous platelet concentrates (APCs), particularly platelet‐rich fibrin (PRF), act as biologically active fibrin scaffolds, capable of entrapping and gradually releasing therapeutic agents in oral and periodontal therapy. The incorporation of bioactive compounds, such as antibiotics, antifungals, vitamins, antidiabetic drugs, and exosomes, enhances ...

Plasma ADAMTS13 activity in healthy dogs and dogs with chronic enteropathy

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
Objectives A disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin type 1 motif, member 13 is a von Willebrand factor cleaving enzyme that is associated with prothrombotic/hypercoagulable states in humans. In people, A disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin type 1 motif, member 13 activity is reduced with inflammatory bowel disease ...

Incorporating the Competencies of Evidence‐Based Veterinary Medicine Focused on Pharmacotherapeutics Into Clinical Rotations for Small Animal Dermatology and Food Animal Medicine and Surgery at a Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital in the US

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Building the skills and knowledge necessary to practice evidence‐based veterinary medicine (EBVM) should occur throughout the veterinary curriculum. Operationalizing EBVM includes asking a clinical question in PICO format, searching the biomedical literature for evidence, critically appraising the evidence, and applying the evidence to make a ...

Plasma Pharmacokinetic Profile of Fipronil 1% Pour‐On in Cattle: Photodegradation and the Sustained Systemic Persistence of Fipronil Sulfone

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study characterized the long‐term pharmacokinetic profile of a 1% fipronil pour‐on formulation in Nellore bulls under field conditions. Seventeen animals received a single topical dose (1 mg/kg), and plasma concentrations of fipronil and its metabolites (sulfone and desulfinyl) were monitored for 175 days using LC–MS/MS.

Pharmacokinetics of Diclazuril in the Plasma and Cerebrospinal Fluid of Healthy Adult Horses After a Single Oral Dose Administered as a Pelleted Topdressing

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis can cause acute infections with rapid onset of neurologic signs, necessitating immediate empiric therapy with antiprotozoal medication. The objective of the study was to identify when concentrations of diclazuril reached the MIC of Sarcocystis neurona in CSF (1 ng/mL) of healthy adult horses after a single ...

Conservation Management Strategies Shape Glucocorticoid Levels in African Elephant Populations More Than Parasite Load

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, EarlyView.
Understanding the factors influencing physiological stress is essential for interpreting how wildlife responds to contrasting environmental and management conditions. Across 19 South African elephant populations, we found that smaller reserves, self‐drive tourism, and high elephant density under low vegetation productivity were associated with elevated
