Wide temperature operation of 40-Gb/s 1550-nm electroabsorption modulated lasers

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2006
Electroabsorption modulated lasers (EMLs) exploiting the quantum confined Stark effect need thermoelectric coolers to achieve stable output power levels and dynamic extinction ratios. Temperature-independent operation is reported between 20/spl deg/C and 70/spl deg/C for InGaAlAs-InP-based monolithically integrated 1550-nm EMLs exploiting a shared ...

High temperature, optically pumped, 1.55 μm VCSEL operating at 6 Gb/s

1999 57th Annual Device Research Conference Digest (Cat. No.99TH8393), 2000
Vertical cavity lasers operating at a wavelength of 1547 nm were optically pumped by a 980-nm diode laser. Continuous-wave fiber-coupled output powers of 2 mW at room temperature and 140 nW at 105/spl deg/C were observed. Fiber optic transmission over 25 km at 6 Gbit/s with a power penalty of 0.3 dB was demonstrated.

Monolithic All-Optical Set-Reset Flip-Flop Operating at 10 Gb/s

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2013
A monolithic semiconductor ring laser is operated as an all-optical set-reset flip-flop triggered by external optical pulses. Bit-error-rate measurements of set-reset switchings under the injection of a pseudo-random-bit-sequence have been performed, showing reliable operation up to 10 Gb/s.

Transmission performance improvement studies for low-cost 2.5 Gb/s rated DML sources operated at 10 Gb/s

2008 34th European Conference on Optical Communication, 2008
Performance improvement methods for the operation of 2.5 Gbps rated low-cost DML sources at 10 Gbps over record distances are studied by means of chirp characteristics, offset receiver filtering and DFE equalization.

Five Gb/s operation of a 50-channel optical interconnect

Optical Engineering, 1992
The architecture and experimental demonstration of a novel optical time-division multiple-access (TDMA) interconnect is presented in detail. Optical multiplexing and synchronization is used to overcome the electronic multiple-access bottlenecks associated with gigahertz-bandwidth multiprocessor communication systems.

10-Gb/s Operation of RSOA Using a Delay Interferometer

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2010
We report on the use of a delay interferometer (DI) to transmit 10-Gb/s optical signals from a 1.5-GHz-bandwidth reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA). The DI acts as a two-tap optical equalizer, compensating for the severe bandwidth limitation imposed by the RSOA.
