An improved hydrophobic coating for the porous gas diffusion layer in a PEM-based electrochemical hydrogen pump to mitigate anode flooding

open access: yesElectrochemistry Communications, 2020
Anode flooding is a critical issue in proton exchange membrane (PEM)-based electrochemical hydrogen pumps. Water-proofing the gas diffusion layer (GDL) on the anode side is a highly effective approach to mitigate the flooding problem and to enhance ...

Unveiling Anodic Reconstruction of Electroless‐Deposited Dual‐Sided NiFeP Catalyst‐Coated Membranes for Efficient Anion Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A rapid electroless deposition strategy enables the 15 min fabrication of dual‐sided NiFeP catalyst‐coated membranes (CCMs) for anion exchange membrane (AEM) water electrolysis. The resulting ionomer‐free CCMs offer strong membrane‐catalyst adhesion and efficient ionic transport.

Developing a Suitable Anion Exchange Layer Structure for Pure–Water Fed Bipolar Membrane CO2 Electrolysis

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A porous anion exchange layer (AEL) is implemented in a forward‐biased bipolar membrane CO2 electrolyzer to suppress carbonate crossover, support CO2 regeneration and maintain cathode alkalinity. Two fabrication strategies are compared—deposition on a silver gas diffusion electrode (GDE) or on the CEM—showing that a porous AEL‐coated GDE provides the ...

Revealing Structure–Performance Relations in Core‐Shell Catalyst‐Based PEM Water Electrolyzer Anodes with Low Iridium Loading

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Table of Contents The TiO2@IrO2 core–shell architecture ensures high electronic conductivity even at a low iridium content of 10 wt%. The resulting catalyst layer shows significantly higher iridium utilization than a commercial reference, leading to improved PEMWE single‐cell performance at low iridium loading.

A parser for GDL written in Sicstus Prolog [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
A parser for a language called GDL (Graphical Description Language, a Basic-like language) is presented. GDL is a language used in the CAD system ArchiCAD, which is a CAD system used by architects for drawing buildings.

Understanding the impact of the gas diffusion layer structure on catalyst utilization in the PEM water electrolyzer

open access: yesNext Energy
A multiphysics half-cell model of a polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolyzer (PEMWE) was developed to probe impacts of the detailed 3-dimensional pore structure of the gas diffusion layer (GDL) on performance characteristics. We show that pores in

Visualizing CO2 Electroreduction Dynamics: Advances in Electrochemical AFM for Catalyst Interfacial Analysis

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights how in situ electrochemical atomic force microscopy (EC‐AFM) bridges materials science and electrochemistry by providing real‐time, nanoscale visualization of catalyst dynamics during CO2 reduction. By uncovering interfacial reconstruction, active‐site evolution, and structure–activity relationships across diverse catalysts, EC ...
