Abnormal noise detector for gear units

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1987
An abnormal noise detector for use in evaluating the quality of automotive gear units or the like is disclosed. The present invention employs a microphone which picks up the noise produced by a gear unit being tested and an adjustable bandpass filter connected to the microphone which passes only those signals from the microphone having a desired ...

Finite element analysis of internal gear in high-speed planetary gear units

Transactions of Tianjin University, 2008
The stress and the elastic deflection of internal ring gear in high-speed spur planetary gear units are investigated. A rim thickness parameter is defined as the flexibility of internal ring gear. Six evenly spaced linear springs are used to describe the fitting status between internal ring gear and the gearcase.

Standard Gear Units

1995
To solve a problem of transmission it is possible to design a special gear unit as follows. Its study can be prolonged or rapid. In the first case the result is a good product characterized, however, by exorbitant production costs. In the second there could also be some problems during operation as the solution has been adopted in a too hurried way ...

Investigating Vibration Sources of Faulty Gear Units

Key Engineering Materials, 2008
A crack in the tooth root is the least desirable damage of gear units, which often leads to failure of gear unit operation. A possible damage can be identified by monitoring vibrations. The influences that a crack in the tooth root of a single-stage gear unit has upon vibrations are dealt with.

Bearings Failure of Gear Drive Unit Caused by Gear Resonance

2013
Gear transmission units could work properly in the resonance conditions but they cause very unfavorable effects on other components and the environment. It is necessary to identify the resonance range, and afterwards to harmonize design parameters with operating conditions, so as to avoid primary and secondary resonance.

Magnetically geared conveyor drive unit - an updated version

2020 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2020
This paper presents an updated design of a magnetically geared drive unit for chain conveyor applications. The magnetic gear is placed partially inside the sprocket that drives the chain, and the permanent magnet synchronous machine driving the gear is placed axially next to the gear. The first version suffered from very large rotational losses leading

Investigating Sound Sources of Faulty Gear Units

Key Engineering Materials, 2009
In diagnostics, the condition of mechanical systems can be determined very reliably on the basis of noise. Noise source visualization is based on a number of different methods. These methods are primarily intended for a specific noise source in a specific acoustic environment. In this paper, a visualization method of complex noise sources, based on the

Synthesis of single differential gear units

Journal of Mechanisms, 1970
Abstract By considering the kinematics and manner of incorporation of the essential element of all differential gearing arrangements - the planetary member - a basic arrangement for single differential gears is proposed. The modifications necessary to the basic form to produce either bevel-gear or cylinder-gear arrangements are examined.

Asymmetric Gear Blank Optimization to Reduce Gear Noise for Electric Drive Units

SAE Technical Paper Series
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Gear whine has emerged as a significant challenge for electric vehicles (EVs) in the absence of engine masking noise. The demand from customers for premium EVs with high speed and high torque density introduces additional NVH risks.
