A gel electrophoresis method for quantifying the binding of proteins to specific DNA regions: application to components of the Escherichia coli lactose operon regulatory system

open access: yesNucleic Acids Res., 1981
The use of gel electrophoresis for quantitative studies of DNA-protein interactions is described. This rapid and simple technique involves separation of free DNA from DNA-protein complexes based on differences in their electrophoretic mobilities in ...

Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

An Improved Method for PAGE-based Detection of Phosphorylated Protein in Yeast

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2012
One dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis has been successfully used to detect protein phosphorylation. This method is very simple and highly reproducible.

Analysis of proteins from marine molluscs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Application of the two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) protocols which were developed for samples of mammalian origin gives unsatisfactory results when used in samples from marine molluscs. This chapter describes a detailed protocol of 2DE that can

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of soybean seed proteins

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2015
Four major and 14 minor protein bands were detected when total salt soluble proteins of soybean (Glycine max cultivar Warszawska) seed were subjected to polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis under nondissociating conditions, and 16 protein bands were ...

Transport in polymer-gel composites: Theoretical methodology and response to an electric field [PDF]

open access: yesJ Fluid Mech. (2006) vol 551 pp 405--433, 2005
A theoretical model of electromigrative, diffusive and convectivetransport polymer-gel composites is presented. Bulk properties are derived from the standard electrokinetic model with an impenetrable charged sphere embedded in an electrolyte-saturated Brinkman medium. Because the microstructure can be carefully controlled, these materials are promising

Distribution of bacterioplankton in meromictic Lake Saelenvannet, as determined by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis of PCR-amplified gene fragments coding for 16S rRNA

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1997
The community structure of bacterioplankton in meromictic Lake Saelenvannet was examined by PCR amplification of the V3 region of 16S rRNA from microbial communities recovered from various depths in the water column.

Tonic signaling of the B‐cell antigen‐specific receptor is a common functional hallmark in chronic lymphocytic leukemia cell phosphoproteomes at early disease stages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
B‐cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B‐CLL) and monoclonal B‐cell lymphocytosis (MBL) show altered proteomes and phosphoproteomes, analyzed using mass spectrometry, protein microarrays, and western blotting. Identifying 2970 proteins and 316 phosphoproteins, including 55 novel phosphopeptides, we reveal BCR and NF‐kβ/STAT3 signaling in disease ...

Secretion of apolipoproteins in very low density and high density lipoproteins by perfused rat liver

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1974
The incorporation of labeled amino acids into the peptides of very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) and high density lipoproteins (HDL) secreted by perfused rat liver was studied using a Ringer—albumin solution in the perfusate in place of serum to ...
