Gel-Electrophoresis and Diffusion of Ring-Shaped DNA

open access: yes, 1997
A model for the motion of ring-shaped DNA in a gel is introduced and studied by numerical simulations and a mean-field approximation. The ring motion is mediated by finger-shaped loops (hernias) that move in an amoeba-like fashion around the gel ...

Chemical differences of atherosclerotic plaques in native and bypass human coronary arteries and diseased and non-diseased human aortas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Cardiovascular disease, primarily atherosclerosis involves a number of distinct processes that are associated with plaque development. The use of differential gel electrophoresis to determine differences between proteins produced in native and bypass ...

Expression and purification of E140 protein antigen fragments of Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium berghei for serological assays

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We provide a step‐by‐step guide for producing E140 antigen fragments from Plasmodium berghei (Pb1) and Plasmodium vivax (Pv1). Pb1/Pv1 are expressed in E. coli, solubilized by freeze–thawing, refolded by slow dilution, purified by affinity chromatography (IMAC), then concentrated and subjected to quality control.

Diversity and Dynamics of Indigenous \u3cem\u3eRhizobium japonicum\u3c/em\u3e Populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
A simple method, based upon the separation of cellular proteins by sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, has been devised for distinguishing between isolates of Rhizobium japonicum.

CDK5 interacts with MST2 and modulates the Hippo signalling pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
By using a yeast‐two‐hybrid system, immune precipitation and a proteomics approach, we identify a novel interaction between CDK5 and MST2, which modulates the mechano‐sensitive Hippo signalling pathway in a liver tumour cell line. MST2 (STK3) is a major upstream kinase in the Hippo signalling pathway, an evolutionary conserved pathway in regulation of ...

HDAC4 regulates apoptosis in Acan‐CreERT2;HDAC4d/d mice with osteoarthritis by downregulating ATF4

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using the AcanCreERT2;HDAC4fl/fl genetic mouse model, we further investigated the role of histone deacetylase 4 (HDAC4) in chondrocyte apoptosis. We found that knocking down HDAC4 may be associated with chondrocyte apoptosis by upregulating the activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4)/CAAT/enhancer binding protein homologous (CHOP) signaling pathway ...

FAM136A depletion induces mitochondrial stress and reduces mitochondrial membrane potential and ATP production

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
FAM136A depletion upregulated ROS production, reduced mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨ) and ATP production, and upregulated expression of PCK1, PCK2, HMGCS1, and HMGCS2. The expression of both TOMM22 and TOMM20 was also upregulated. FAM136A depletion reduced HCCS that produce holocytochrome c by combining heme to apocytochrome c, and reduced the ...

A potential tumor suppressor role of PLK2 in glioblastoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
PLK2 was consistently downregulated in GBM tissues. Overexpression of PLK2 in GBM cell lines U87MG and U251 reduced their tumorigenic potential and enhanced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Suggesting that PLK2 overexpression could potentially be leveraged as a therapeutic strategy to inhibit tumor progression and enhance apoptosis, providing new ...
