Mechanical strength improvement of sol-gel derived dry gels for optical fiber preforms

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 1990
Crack-free dry gels 85 mm in diameter for optical fiber preforms have been successfully fabricated by increasing their mechanical strength. Additions of fluorinated silicon ethoxide and SiO2 powder of low specific surface area into sol solution were effective in increasing the fracture strength of dry gels.

Determination of the tensile strength of gels

Journal of Polymer Science, 1955
AbstractA method has been devised and an apparatus constructed for measuring the tensile strength of viscoelastic gels. The method consists of extruding the gel vertically through a nozzle of diameter of 2–14 mm. and weighing the gel‐column falling by its own weight.

Compression Strength of Dairy Gels and Microstructural Interpretation

Journal of Food Science, 1991
ABSTRACT Contour plots were developed for the compression stress (at 20% deformation) of single‐component, mixed and filled protein gels. Samples were made by heating and acidification from skim milk powder, SMP (0–20% TS), whey protein isolate, WPI (0–10% TS), and recombined cream, within pH 3.6–3.9, 4.6–4.8 and 5.1–5.3. At higher pH,

Investigation on fish surimi gel as promising food material for 3D printing

, 2018
This paper presents the development of a new 3D printing food constructs based on fish surimi gel system. This study investigated the influence of NaCl addition on rheological property, gel strength, water holding capacity (WHC), water distribution and ...

Ultraviolet irradiation improves gel strength of fish gelatin

Food Chemistry, 2009
Abstract Preliminary studies were undertaken to investigate the impact of ultraviolet (UV) irradiation on the gel strength, viscosity, and thermal properties of a commercially procured fish gelatin sample. Fish gelatin samples (dry granules) were exposed to UV irradiation for 30 and 60 min.
