On the detachment of the gelatinous layer in tension wood fiber [PDF]
The detachment of the gelatinous layer (G-layer), often observed on microtome cross sections, has led some authors to believe that the G-layer cannot act as the driving force of longitudinal shrinkage in tension wood. The aim of this study was to observe the detachment of the G-layer along fibers.

Distribution, composition and functions of gelatinous tissues in deep-sea fishes [PDF]
Many deep-sea fishes have a gelatinous layer, or subdermal extracellular matrix, below the skin or around the spine. We document the distribution of gelatinous tissues across fish families (approx.

SHRINKAGE OF THE GELATINOUS LAYER OF POPLAR AND BEECH TENSION WOOD [PDF]
Macroscopic longitudinal shrinkage of beech and poplar tension wood is higher than in normal wood. This shrinkage is the result of mechanical interactions of cell wall layers. SEM observation of cut, dried surfaces showed that longitudinal shrinkage is much greater in the gelatinous layer than in other layers.

Enzymatic hydrolysis of the gelatinous layer in tension wood of Salix varieties as a measure of accessible cellulose for biofuels. [PDF]
Background Salix (willow) species represent an important source of bioenergy and offer great potential for producing biofuels. Salix spp. like many hardwoods, produce tension wood (TW) characterized by special fibres (G-fibres) that produce a cellulose ...

Two cases of symptomatic adventitial cystic disease involving the popliteal artery and femoral vein. [PDF]
Adventitial cystic disease is a rare condition involving mucinous cysts within the adventitial layer of arteries or veins. We report two distinct cases: one in the popliteal artery presenting with intermittent claudication and another in the femoral vein

Stack of cellular lamellae forms a silvered cortex to conceal the opaque organ in a transparent gastropod in epipelagic habitat [PDF]
Background Gelatinous zooplankton in epipelagic environments often have highly transparent bodies to avoid detection by their visual predators and prey; however, the digestive systems are often exceptionally opaque even in these organisms.

Comparative Analysis of G-Layers in Bast Fiber and Xylem Cell Walls in Flax Using Raman Spectroscopy
In a response to gravitropic stress, G-layers (gelatinous layers) were deposited in xylem cell walls of tilted flax plants. G-layers were produced in both tension wood (upper side) as expected but were also observed in opposite wood (lower side).

Dark plumes of glacial meltwater affect vertical distribution of zooplankton in the Arctic
In polar regions, the release of glacial meltwater resulting in turbid plumes is expected to transform coastal waters with numerous consequences on the marine ecosystem.
