Background Bacteria belonging to the genus Haemophilus cause a wide range of diseases in humans. Recently, H. influenzae was classified by the WHO as priority pathogen due to the wide spread of ampicillin resistant strains. However, other Haemophilus spp.

A comparison and evaluation of five biclustering algorithms by quantifying goodness of biclusters for gene expression data [PDF]
Abstract Background Several biclustering algorithms have been proposed to identify biclusters, in which genes share similar expression patterns across a number of conditions. However, different algorithms would yield different biclusters and further lead to distinct conclusions. Therefore, some testing and comparisons

String Matching with Multicore CPUs: Performing Better with the Aho-Corasick Algorithm
Multiple string matching is known as locating all the occurrences of a given number of patterns in an arbitrary string. It is used in bio-computing applications where the algorithms are commonly used for retrieval of information such as sequence analysis

Competent genetic-evolutionary optimization of water distribution systems [PDF]
A genetic algorithm has been applied to the optimal design and rehabilitation of a water distribution system. Many of the previous applications have been limited to small water distribution systems, where the computer time used for solving the problem ...

An effective non-parametric method for globally clustering genes from expression profiles
Clustering is widely used in bioinformatics to find gene correlation patterns. Although many algorithms have been proposed, these are usually confronted with difficulties in meeting the requirements of both automation and high quality.

FreePSI: an alignment-free approach to estimating exon-inclusion ratios without a reference transcriptome. [PDF]
Alternative splicing plays an important role in many cellular processes of eukaryotic organisms. The exon-inclusion ratio, also known as percent spliced in, is often regarded as one of the most effective measures of alternative splicing events.

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

In microarray data analysis, clustering is a method that groups thousands of genes by their similarities of expression levels, helping to analyze gene expression profiles. This method has been used for identifying unknown functions of genes. The fuzzy clustering method assigns one sample to multiple groups according to their degrees of membership. This

This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.
