Regulation of gene expression by acidic pH in an opportunistic human fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans: modulating antifungal susceptibility and iron Uptake

open access: yes, 2020
Cryptococcus neoformans is an opportunistic human fungal pathogen, but its infection is militated by phagocytosis and phagolysosomes in the host immune system. It has been reported that the pH of phagolysosomes containing C. neoformans is approximately 5.3.

Precision Editing of NLRS Improves Effector Recognition for Enhanced Disease Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Precision engineering of plant NLR immune receptors enables rational design of enhanced pathogen resistance through mismatched pairing, domain swapping, and targeted mutagenesis. These approaches achieve multi‐fold expansion in recognition breadth while minimizing autoimmunity risks and fitness penalties.

MDP25‐VDAC3 Complex Orchestrates Actin Remodeling and Mitochondrial Dynamics to Modulate Innate Immunity in Arabidopsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that actin remodeling regulates mitochondrial elongation as a defense strategy in plants. Flagellin perception induces fusion‐dependent elongation, supported by cortical actin bundles, to repair damage and boost ATP and ROS production.

RNA interference screening reveals host CaMK4 as a regulator of cryptococcal uptake and pathogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cryptococcus neoformans , the causative agent of cryptococcosis, is an opportunistic fungal pathogen that kills over 200,000 individuals annually. This yeast may grow freely in body fluids, but it also flourishes within host cells.

Differential regulation of gene expression in the obligate biotrophic interaction of Uromyces fabae with its host Vicia faba.

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2001
Classical analysis of obligate biotrophic fungi revealed changes of enzyme activities or the concentration of metabolites in infected areas. However, due to the intricate integration of host and parasite metabolism, it was not possible to delineate the ...

Principles for Rigorous Design and Application of Synthetic Microbial Communities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SynComs are artificially designed to enable inter‐species metabolic interactions, metabolic division of labor, and ecological interactions that can elicit phenotypes like colonization stability and environmental adaptation. This systematic review explores the processes used to construct SynComs, the assessment of the mechanisms of metabolic interaction

Single-Cell Transcript Profiling of Barley Attacked by the Powdery Mildew Fungus

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2007
In many plant-pathogen interactions, there are several possible outcomes for simultaneous attacks on the same leaf. For instance, an attack by the powdery mildew fungus on one barley leaf epidermal cell may succeed in infection and formation of a ...

Amodiaquine Enhances Anti‐Melanoma Efficacy of Attenuated Salmonella via Targeting Glutathione Reductase in Neutrophils

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that Salmonella VNP20009 recruits pro‐tumor neutrophils that reduce its anticancer efficacy. Combining VNP with amodiaquine selectively eliminates these neutrophils by targeting glutathione reductase. A GR‐shRNA‐loaded VNP strain was further developed, demonstrating an innovative strategy integrating drug repurposing with synthetic ...

Role and molecular mechanism of epigenetic regulation during the development and pathogenesis of plant pathogenic fungi

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版
Over a long period of evolution, plant pathogenic fungi have developed a wide range of intricate and sophisticated strategies to invade their host plants, and the precise regulation of gene expression is necessary for interactions between plants and ...
