Identification and characterisation of a hyper-variable apoplastic effector gene family of the potato cyst nematodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Date of Acceptance: 11/08/2014Sedentary endoparasitic nematodes are obligate biotrophs that modify host root tissues, using a suite of effector proteins to create and maintain a feeding site that is their sole source of nutrition. Using assumptions about

Simulation of gene family histories [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2014
Background The way gene families and genomes evolve can be understood in detail only when the location of gene duplication episodes in the tree of life can be deciphered. Since most genes belong to larger gene families, the analysis of the gene family histories thus plays an important role in the study of genome evolution.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

CGM2, a Member of the Carcinoembryonic Antigen Gene Family is Down- Regulated in Colorectal Carcinomas [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
We have determined the precise chromosomal location, the exon structure, and the expression pattern of CGM2, a member of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) gene family.

Sequence diversity and evolutionary dynamics of the dimorphic antigen merozoite surface protein-6 and other Msp genes of Plasmodium falciparum.

open access: yes, 2009
Immune evasion by Plasmodium falciparum is favored by extensive allelic diversity of surface antigens. Some of them, most notably the vaccine-candidate merozoite surface protein (MSP)-1, exhibit a poorly understood pattern of allelic dimorphism, in which

Phylogeny and gene expression of the complete NITRATE TRANSPORTER 1/PEPTIDE TRANSPORTER FAMILY (NPF) in Triticum aestivum L. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
NPF genes encode membrane transporters involved in the transport of a large variety of substrates including nitrate and peptides. The NPF gene family has been described for many plants, but the whole NPF gene family for wheat has not been completely ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Characterization, sub-cellular localization and expression profiling of the isoprenylcysteine methylesterase gene family in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Isoprenylcysteine methylesterases (ICME) demethylate prenylated protein in eukaryotic cell. Until now, knowledge about their molecular information, localization and expression pattern is largely unavailable in plant species.

Genome-Wide Mining of Chitinase Diversity in the Marine Diatom Thalassiosira weissflogii and Functional Characterization of a Novel GH19 Enzyme

open access: yesMarine Drugs
Chitin represents a globally abundant marine polymer with significant ecological and biotechnological value. β-chitin is an important carbon fixation product of diatoms and has a greater range of applications than α- and γ-chitin. However, there has been

Gene Conversion and Evolution of Gene Families: An Overview [PDF]

open access: yesGenes, 2010
The importance of gene conversion for the evolution of gene families is reviewed. Four problems concerning gene conversion, i.e., concerted evolution, generation of useful variation, deleterious effects, and relation to neofunctionalization, are discussed by surveying reported examples of evolving gene families.
