Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein Astrocytopathy Based on a Two‐Center Chinese Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Glial fibrillary acidic protein astrocytopathy (GFAP‐A) is a recently defined nosological form belonging to the class of autoimmune inflammatory disorders affecting the central nervous system (CNS). Here, we report the clinical and MRI characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of a GFAP‐A cohort from two centers in China.

Timing and Predictive Value of Clinical Conditions Preceding Multiple Sclerosis in the UK Biobank

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Multiple sclerosis (MS) patients often experience a higher incidence of clinical conditions before diagnosis, suggesting a prodromal phase. However, their predictive value and temporal trajectories remain underexplored. We investigated these aspects using the large UK Biobank's population‐based cohort, which provided clinical ...

Clinical Characteristics of Parkinsonism in HTLV‐1‐Associated Myelopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Human T‐lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV‐1)‐associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP) is the classic neurological manifestation of HTLV‐1 infection; however, this virus has also been associated with other neurological disorders. Concurrent parkinsonism is relatively rare and presents diagnostic challenges.

Cognitive Resilience in Apolipoprotein ε4 Carrier Women Predicted by Neuron‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The Apolipoprotein (APOE) ε4 allele is the strongest genetic risk factor for late‐onset Alzheimer's disease (AD); however, many ε4 carriers remain cognitively intact into old age. Leveraging plasma neuron‐derived extracellular vesicles (NDEVs), we sought to identify biomarkers of cognitive resilience and their interplay with APOE ...

NIDM: network impulsive dynamics on multiplex biological network for disease-gene prediction

Briefings Bioinform., 2021
The prediction of genes related to diseases is important to the study of the diseases due to high cost and time consumption of biological experiments. Network propagation is a popular strategy for disease-gene prediction.

Vertebrate gene predictions and the problem of large genes [PDF]

open access: possibleNature Reviews Genetics, 2003
To find unknown protein-coding genes, annotation pipelines use a combination of ab initio gene prediction and similarity to experimentally confirmed genes or proteins. Here, we show that although the ab initio predictions have an intrinsically high false-positive rate, they also have a consistently low false-negative rate.

Machine learning-based approaches for disease gene prediction.

Briefings in Functional Genomics, 2020
Disease gene prediction is an essential issue in biomedical research. In the early days, annotation-based approaches were proposed for this problem. With the development of high-throughput technologies, interaction data between genes/proteins have grown ...

Prediction of gene structure

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1992
We have developed a hierarchical rule base system for identifying genes in DNA sequences. Atomic sites (such as initiation codons, stop codons, acceptor sites and donor sites) are identified by a number of different methods and evaluated by a set of filters and rules chosen to maximize sensitivity; these are combined into higher-order gene elements ...
