Dexmedetomidine inhibits the lipopolysaccharide‐stimulated inflammatory response in microglia through the pathway involving TLR4 and NF‐κB

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2019
To investigate the effects of dexmedetomidine (DEX) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced neuroinflammation in BV2 microglia. BV2 microglial cells were treated with various concentrations of DEX (0, 1, 10, and 100 ng/mL) for 1 hour, and then incubated in ...

Activation of D1 Dopamine Receptors Induces Emergence from Isoflurane General Anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: A recent study showed that methylphenidate induces emergence from isoflurane anesthesia. Methylphenidate inhibits dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake transporters.

Pericytes change function depending on glioblastoma vicinity: emphasis on immune regulation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pericytes alter their transcriptome depending on their proximity to the tumor core. In the tumor core, pericytes display a more active state with higher communication strength but with lower immune activation potential and a shift toward extracellular matrix production.

The Thermodynamics of General and Local Anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2014
General anesthetics are known to cause depression of the freezing point of transitions in biomembranes. This is a consequence of ideal mixing of the anesthetic drugs in the membrane fluid phase and exclusion from the solid phase. Such a generic law provides physical justification of the famous Meyer-Overton rule.

Surgical pulmonary embolectomy on VA-ECMO

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports, 2021
Surgical pulmonary embolectomy is a procedure that is often used to rescue patients with massive pulmonary embolism (PE) and circulatory collapse that have failed or may not be ideal candidates for other systemic and endovascular treatment modalities ...

Physostigmine and Methylphenidate Induce Distinct Arousal States During Isoflurane General Anesthesia in Rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Although emergence from general anesthesia is clinically treated as a passive process driven by the pharmacokinetics of drug clearance, agents that hasten recovery from general anesthesia may be useful for treating delayed emergence ...

Association of General Anesthesia vs Procedural Sedation With Functional Outcome Among Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke Undergoing Thrombectomy: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), 2019
Importance General anesthesia during thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke has been associated with poor neurological outcome in nonrandomized studies.

Co‐overexpression of the caloric restriction‐induced mitochondrial factors PGC‐1α and MIPEP upregulates Phospho1 expression in adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caloric restriction that extends lifespan induces the expression of PGC‐1α and MIPEP in white adipose tissue. In this study, co‐overexpression of Pgc‐1α and Mipep upregulated the gene expression of PHOSPHO1. These findings provide new insights into mitochondria‐related mechanisms underlying the effects of caloric restriction in adipocytes.

Lung (extracorporeal CO2 removal) and renal (continuous renal replacement therapy) support: the role of ultraprotective strategy in Covid 19 and non-Covid 19 ARDS. A case-control study

open access: yesJournal of Anesthesia, Analgesia and Critical Care
Background Preliminary studies suggest that moderate ARDS and acute renal failure might benefit from extracorporeal CO2 removal (ECCO2R) coupled with CRRT. However, evidence is limited and potential for this coupled treatment may need to be explored. The

Effect of nitric oxide on postoperative acute kidney injury in patients who underwent cardiopulmonary bypass: a systematic review and meta-analysis with trial sequential analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Intensive Care, 2019
Background The effect of nitric oxide (NO) on renal function is controversial in critical illness. We performed a systematic meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis to determine the effect of NO gas on renal function and other clinical outcomes in ...
